IIRC, there's five known sapient species, only two of which are still extant: Humans & Thargoids. The other three are extinct: the species that built the Soontil relics, the Guardians, and the species that existed on Capital before humans terraformed that world. There's a potential sixth sapient species, the one that constructed the Martian artifact, though it could be Thargoid in origin. Finally, depending upon how you define "alien life," there's two other potential species out there: Guardian Constructs and the escaped Human AI.Quote... Leadfoot

Where did you get that family photo?!
Well if the hypothesis that the population is smaller the further back you go is right then at one point we are all one family so his family photo is your family photo.
The alternative hypothesis is that actually the population gets larger the further back you go as an individual has two parents who each have two parents so only two generations ago the population was 4 times larger.
That's all very interesting and scientific, but it doesn't explain why my nose looks like a dong....!
