Other players are generally NOT douchebags in ED

I assume the game self polices to a degree? I mean, if a pilot likes to attack "innocent" players/NPC's that currently have NO bounty on them, surely he is going to run up a fair bounty himself before too long? With all the legitimate Bounty Hunters out there, are they not asking for trouble?

Am I wrong? Is something like this not implemented yet? Even a lawless system, maybe especially a lawless system, is going to have players and NPC killing others for their bounties.

Scoob.

**ie I didnt have a bounty or cargo, wasnt in federal distress on the opposite side and was surrounded with AIs who DID have those things and would make for a logical target.

If one goes to an extraction site to pirate miners it's perfectly logical to take out the competing pirates AND the bounty hunters. Personally I'd take out the more dangerous bounty hunters first, that would be logical as I know they are likely to be better.

</devil's advocate>

Other players are not ALL douchebags in ED, but we do have Iain. So that's nice.

I dont follow.... if you have a bounty, then I am a threat to you so sure, you should possibly consider me a threat.

if you dont have a bounty then I am no threat to you, and in theory, as I dont have a bounty, I cant see how I am an attractive target for you either :S

unless you are suggesting a clean bounty hunter would kill other bounty hunters as they are rivals? If so, I am not sure that is generally how the bounty hunter profession works ;)

You will run into douchebags in any multiplayer game. The pricetag of entering this game atm might prevent a lot of bad behaviour, but one it goes retail you will get them here too.

No bounty; not a pirate; fair enough.

He's saying that the best way to make money, at the moment at least, may be to remove the competition.

And he did call "Devils Advocate".

I've encountered a few instances in battles where another player has swapped factions deliberately to kill me.

I have also found that the majority of players that actually do target me in faction battles make very little effort to actually try and fight and instead almost always just try and ram me, which is very frustrating and something I personally feel needs to be addressed.

In a simple way it does.
For example: I've only been attacked twice by players in the Beta - Both cases were in extraction sites, where I had 0 bounty/crime on me.

#1 - We were both in basic sidewinders (1 laser), he jumped me as I killed an NPC with bounty on it. This might have been one of those new players like Tylermon mentioned, as I quickly realized he was definately not 'dangerous' (pun intended :p ) - He never got through my first shield layer.

#2 - I was in sidewinder with 2 pulse laser, other guy in an eagle. Funny thing was that I had just scanned him at long range and saw that he had a bounty on him, so it was painfully obvious that he was gonna attack me since he flew towards me.
He even took the time to position himself behind me, but I was already flying with shields at full power.
Anyway, the end result was him escaping in his faster eagle with 23% hull. (I took no hull damage)

The lesson that I've learnt: Scan players ASAP and if they have any bounty on them, keep an eye on them.

Well I did get ganked a couple of times in Fed Distress last night - or at least it seemed that way. In the first instance one attacked - who on the 1st pass I was besting (he was missing I was manoeuvring and getting shots on taking down his shields) then three or four more appeared from nowhere.

Which though clearly within the rules was not terribly sporting - definitely not cricket!

:D

(I shall be re-visiting in due course with a baseball bat).

Wow I get a warning for using " bag" in a post and you have an entire thread based on it and no warning.

Might be the difference between "Razorwire, you're a bag" and "Griefers are bags"?
One is specifically aimed at a forum member in person, the other at a diffuse range of pilots whose actions are dubious.

I try to be reasonable to other players, even when they are on the opposing faction and particularly if they are flying a basic Sidewinder. It's tough getting those upgrades at the beginning.

But it does amaze me when quite a few of those sidewinders insist on opening fire on me in my pimped out reinforced Cobra. How do they think I will respond? By offering them a glass of milk and a cookie?

Protip: Scan other players' subsystems to see their weapon loadout before engaging.
