Other players are not displayed as hollow squares and I cant wing up with them. Anyone else has this issue?

Getting back into ED, its all fine and dandy except as per the title, I cant discern other players from NPCs and I cant wing up with them. This happens on several different networks. So I suspect the issue must be on my laptops end? I disabled the firewall, tried port forwarding and reinstallation. All to no avail. Support asked me to open a ticket on the issue tracker and look for other people with this problem. Issue tracker wouldnt let me submit as per screenshot. I also attached a screenshot with a player and solid radar blip. This is driving me nuts as I´m looking to PvP and play with friends. Is there anything else I could try?

Edit: I am able to wing up with others...

Not seen this before.
Got to ask though, how to you know they are a human player rather than an NPC, is Cmdr Pakolet a friend of yours?
Is it possible to have an NPC name starting with "Cmdr"? (from when ppl got to name NPCs from the kickstarter/early days)

I´m in Shinny and go through the contacts panel. Its definitely a player. There are zero hollow squares around the station and smth like 10 players in mycontacts. Also having this with friends. It appears to be a super rare issue. Could only find 2 occurencens when searching online. Both were from 2015 and 2018 :/

Hey matey, servers are going haywire... long jumps, boards failing to update etc... too much traffic! :D

Have seen this myself in the past once or twice, i.e. human CMDRs misrepresented as solid icons. I'd put it down to connection issues with the instancing server. First step, as ususal,

Rebel! Had this issue a couple months ago already when I got back. Tried reinstalling, firewall modifications, port forwarding etc. Nothing worked. Was hoping the patch would fix it. Didnt work. Reinstalled again. Nope.. Made another ticket with support and sent log files and other stuff. They told me to find people with the same issue to vote up on the tracker. Hence I´m asking here... Its frustrating since I cant wing up and have to check contacts all the time to see if players are in the instance. Grrr..

Checking the contacts panel is the way to go (half the time I don't even realise I'm in an instance with other players. Maybe it's the interdictor, but I digress), and if you do have a name or squadron, try contacting them through Inara.

I've actually seen the opposite bug where hollow squares were NPCs as well. Busy systems can get a little weird.

It seemed to work tonight, I saw your hollow in the CZ!

Even in the CZ?
Yup. Each and every ship is solid on radar. 15 or so players at Jamesons and in supercruise, and all solid too. Its no a huge problem for solo playstyle. But for PvP battles and ambushes this complicates things considerably. Even more so on PC since mouse & keyboard players are way faster and more precise than I am with controller..

We have to make a test in some empty system... away from trafficked areas (including FC).

We can try for sure. Doubt it will yield any results tho. Ms. Ravioli suggested to also try Horizons and Legacy. Met a lonely Horizons CMDR. Filled blip :/
I found a couple folks having the same issues online and tried the suggestions provided: using high and ultra graphics settings, changed localization on my machine, different radar ranges etc. Re-installed game and client. Updated graphics and network drivers. Extensive router fiddling. Firewall settings/pinholes and disabling firewall completely. Zilch, nada, niente... :(

Organic PvP is pretty much futile. Opponents are always one step ahead. Gank evasion in high traffic systems is not possible. Cant evade if one doesnt know which ship to evade. Only solution are extensive loops of shame with tons of luck. Finding opponents in CZs takes ages and I have them sitting on my six firing away while I scroll endlessly through my contacts. Its a pitiful experience :/

First FDev support agent was bamboozled and had no idea what to suggest. Opened another ticket with extensive screenshots and netlogs. Havent heard back from them after a week or so. Understandable with the influx of new players tho. So I´ll keep bumping this thread for a bit in the hopes of someone having solved the puzzle..

@Treptower Park FYI I've had the same solids for at least 3 months. I'm always in open. It's a new one to me. Not surprisingly I couldn't find anything relevant on the ever-user-friendly-issue-tracker to "vote-up," so decided to wait for the big Acendancy update to 'naturally' remedy it

For what it's worth, I've had an (uprated) ISP change in that time that made no difference whatsoever. (Frankly, this was not what I was expecting.) I am, however, using a laptop atm as a common factor to your report, sadly with integrated Intel XE gfx. I had already submitted a driver plea to Intel re EDO gfx glitches. There isn't much I haven't tried to resolve matters myself.
