PA Engineering

Hey there Commanders
I'm closing in on getting a permit to visit the Ailoth system and Bill Turner will be my first stop. I really liked PA's when I tried them but I admit I sucked at using them. Mostly I would miss my target.
Of the available mods which would be good to try? I'm leaning towards Long Shot for the shot speed increase, maybe that will help me hit better. Efficient is "the standard" for PA's because of the massive power but my Python didn't have trouble keeping up shots before.
Any advice y'all can give me would be awesome, thanks for looking!

I tend to use Efficient because the shot speed didn't make enough of a difference for me. That said, if you're into Plasma you should take a look at the Sentinel modified Plasma Chargers.

I didn't include the DPS numbers because of the charging mechanic on the PCs, but the Sentinel-modified PC is almost strictly better than the 2B Efficient PA and its pretty competitive with the 3B Efficient PA.

Cmdr.. let me show you the way.

G5 efficient with thermal conduit on all but one save for target lock breaker.. or maybe dispersal if you are fighting big ships. Efficient is the blessed mod... SRB if you really know what you are doing and the build can handle it. But if you have to ask then it is Efficient all the way.

If you are into using fixed multi cannons or enforcer cannons, the LR mod gets the plasma projectile speed to match your bullets. If your build is only using 1 or 2 and your distributor can handle it, I like this approach. If you are flying something hefty like a gunship or a challenger and have 3 or more plasmas in a single fire group, I'd say try efficient first.

Dude.. if he was using fixed multis there's no way he'd need to ask this question in the first place.. he'd already be at top tier skill level in fixed weapon mastery!

Everyone starts somewhere. The mastery comes after practicing, and guys are free to start practicing before unlocking all the engineers. Just because he may or may not be top tier proficiency yet doesn't mean he isn't out there in space somewhere trying to get better by using fixed weapons.

I have to admit that the Efficient mod is really compelling by the numbers. You want to deliver as much oomph with each precious shot of the PA, especially against those bigger, tankier targets. Some ships are slower, so your time on target is more precious. That said, on my bruiser Python I use a Focused mod to good effect* (3B PA on that build). On my Chieftain which whips around so fast it's ridiculous, I use a Rapid Fire mod (#2 PA on that build). I find that when I go back to the Python, I miss that rapid fire but I guess that in a practical sense more punch outweighs rapid fire, so I have not tried the rapid fire mod on my Python. I hadn't planned to, although I could "play" ;)

* I've been using the Focused mod for so long that it's wise to definitely try the Efficient mod on my Python. Choosing by the numbers is one thing, performance in action is really what matters. This is affected by individual play-style, capability, etc., so I think the phrase YMMV is really appropriate for a lot of this stuff. Having used a stable build for so long, I would expect to notice quite readily whether I like the Focused mod or the Efficient better.

EDIT: I lke the idea of trying the Short Range Blaster mod, although I found that less than compelling when I tried it on either a frag cannon or a multi-cannon (can't quite remember, too many experiments  ), so I ditched it there.
(not an available mod on frags.)

If you're having a tough time compensating for the projectile speed and missing shots, then you've already got the right idea. Going Long Range on them will increase the shot speed, increase the effective range, and reduce the damage falloff. Good if you're trying to fight with them at distances at or past 1.5km.

Just be aware that the power draw and mass will increase, but if you're comfortable with that, the increased range and shot speed will likely mean more damage overall.

If you're able to get used to the normal projectile speed, looking at another mod like efficient will be more worth it. But I feel like the increased shot speed is helpful for accuracy overall.

Huh, now I'm looking at Focused as a good choice on my Python bruiser too.
The choices!

It's a great journey!! You are gonna Love PAs... sooooo satisfying when they land. :)
Can't argue with that! It sure is. And it sure is!\

Sorry about that...

What do you wish to use it for? are you interested in 1v1s.. in bullying NPCs.. in organic fights in open or in organised wing fights with other cmdrs?
I think that PAs are among the best conventional* weapons that you can equip your ship with. I like the poke to think here. As a player that started this game with no friends who played, this is a more in depth analysis of the application than I ever made because I was also just taking it one step (and one experiment, if you will) at a time - learning and growing in the game. That too has changed for me, so another reason to try something different is on my plate. This gives some idea of the background behind my advice.
It's great to get a different perspective...

* equipment that does not require any unlocks like pledging to powers. PAs and MCs are commonly regarded in that group, for good reason. I have yet to try a plasma charger. My plate is full of goodies.

How you get 141.1 dmg on salvation PC?

It does 4.6 dmg, and charging it multiply that by 17... wich equals to 78.2... either I got my math wrong or there is hidden multiplier that adds this extra 62.9 dmg?

Edit:

I just checked and apart of you, there is no other source that this post, to claim about 141.1 dmg. Are you sure you did it right? I dont think its true, and in-game tests done by others, suggest that dmg is exacly as its should be.
