Paid for DLC due soon?

Can't seem to find any announcements about this. Bit frustrated that I bought the lifetime upgrade pass, but so far haven't had any benefit from it. I understand it's only been a three months since release (just under) but I had expected by now, there would have been some small benefit to those who invested in this option?

ahah ... ohh wait. You're serious? Doh.

I don't expect a paid DLC faster than every 6 or 12 months.

If you expect dlc this shortly after a game is released, then you are part of the problem with modern games.
Stick to Call of duty/Battlefield, thanks.

The "DLC" here is really an expansion, not a "let's nickel and dime you for everything you're worth", which generally means you can expect one expansion every 12-24 months. It's rare for games to pump out major expansions faster than that.

I paid for the expansions too.

I'm just hoping that lack of content and forum negativity doesn't kill the game before it is finished.

Not saying we shouldn't complain on the forums.

I keep wishing Elite got the same budget as Star Citizen, and could build big. Instead it got an anaemic investor funded budget, and so we wait for content while FD make decisions that keep the investors happy (like online only, and no dedicated servers). Hoping new players buy the game and keep funding development, so it can become something worth buying.

1.2 does sound a bit like the release version, but maybe release is really 2.0? I get the feeling ED released very early to avoid a release clash with Star Citizen. If ED survives the SC launch, we might see some good content.

There's a few possibilities :

One is that Elite : Deadly is the first actual expansion - in which case we should start hearing details over the coming months (the IP was registered not too long ago)

Elite : Deadly is for something else - in which case I start feeling very cynical.

Elite : Deadly could ALSO be the name for the console release, so as not to confuse with the PC version, as an interesting sub-thought. Unsure.

So, i see everyone is finally meeting Generation NOW NOW NOW!

Sheesh man.. its 3 months.. that's ALMOST 2 haircuts for some of us.. have some patience, its just narrow minded to expect a DLC for a game like this to come within months of release when they are working on so much more.. Wings is like a week away.. consider that your first DLC.. go have fun

they wont be DLC's, but true expansions. The full game isnt even complete, so don't expect that anytime soon

it will be fine, it basically locked up the number 2 spot for space games. However i think it should be put on steam so we can acquire a bigger player base

Elite may appear on Steam later as the influx of new players dwindle. This lets FDev gain the most revenue first. Steam, as is known, takes a 30% cut off the income for others' games.

Happy to buy new skins to show my support for the game at this stage. I can see two or three seriously good expansions before we have to start scraping the barrel with Pandas. The Xbox release and Mac release will bring new cash revenue in and allow more free updated though don't expect them in the lead up to Xbone release as it will be all hands to the pumps at FDev. If there is a Paid Expansion i would expect late Autumn. And that will be planetary landings which they are most likely working on now. The next big Cash maker would be an Android/iOS mini game like fighter combat which would be a good revenue stream. From a business perspective it is all about maximising your revenue streams. E D is just the beginning. So glad i got in at Beta so angry with myself i did not join the Kickstarter. I wanted to play Elite more as a child but It all ended when the tape got worn out, now the game is refreshed regularly, almost too regularly really, and there is more coming. For me building a small Fiefdom on a habitual planet and expanding it would be awesome. Grabbing new colony modules, materials needed to set up and colonists to inhabit the place would be, well awesome. Then fleet management and control. why stop at a lone trader. Build outposts and see where they go. Can't wait.

Whichever direction FDev chooses i have learned to have some faith in them. they pull bunnies out of hats at each update, when the community is moaning about this and that. FDev delivers. Sorry if the game is not quite for you but it fits me like a glove.

Its "paid", but thanks for stopping by to add value. );

Aaaaand you lost all credibility with this statement...

That and the fact that I already paid £40 for this game. I don't want to see Frontier attempting to charge more when they haven't even finished the core game yet...

It took them more than two years to get to the point where you could almost say it's ready for release. How long did you think it'd take them to write a whole 'nother game to tack onto this one?

Patience, young padawan.

Patience is indeed the way to go about Elite: Dangerous. This is not for the impatient. An expansion might come towards the end of this year or sometime next year. I'm having good fun playing Elite on-and-off as it is, playing other games in between. Playing solely Elite and nothing else is, in my opinion, a good way to get burned-out on the game.

You'll see the benefit of free upgrades of what will have been a paid expansion. Nothing we have seen yet is even close to being that.

Unlike certain game makers *cough* EA *cough* who hold back content they already have that should have been part of the initial release, the future expansions for Elite: Dangerous are not written yet.

Frontier are concentrating development on the core game first. The expansions will follow and you'll get plenty of advanced warning when they do.

The true expansions like walking around your ship and stations, planetary landings and fpa are just too big and game changing to be created in a mere three months.
I think FD should concentrate on fleshing out the game as it is.
Planetary landings are a new dimension to the game and fpa is more like an entire new game in itself.
