It's just from time in supercruise. Point the ship in any direction (with enough fuel) & leave it going for a couple of hours if you want to wear the paint down. It'll cost you a fair bit to repair the hull integrity in a Cutter.

I've often thought the same. I really liked the look of my ASPX at around 20%, it's at 0% now which is just a little too much for my tastes!
Maybe they could add a "cheap repaint" option. In anarchy systems, for half a price, you could have your ship repainted. The hues might not match perfectly and in some places the paint would not stick properly...
Such a strange thing to "grind." Trying to keep my paint jobs anything other than 0% is much more of a grind for me, so I generally don't bother with it too much. It's just going to wear down again and be at 0% in a few days after heading back out.
It wouldn't be so bad, but I've bought a lot of paint jobs. It'd be nice to see them once in a while. I wouldn't mind if paint jobs wore down 10 or even 100 times more slowly than what they currently do. Might actually feel like I "earned" a 0% paint job then too, going out to Beagle Point, or something like that.
