Passenger mission failed at final station

I recently took a CEO of a major galactic company on a sightseeing mission for 4 million or so. He had the 'unfazed-by-danger' trait, meaning damage to the ship doesn't affect him...or so I thought. So I decided to go to a hrez for some bounty hunting, which made perfect sense to do while having a CEO on board. Things went sort of badly, and to my surprise I got like 6 angry messages from my 'unfazed' passenger.
Now I ask you, what kind of CEO can't handle a couple of stray rounds hitting the ship? Sure, at <20% hull left I'm certain there must have been some bullet holes in his cabin as well, and yes one of the incoming rockets impacted the area adjacent to his bathroom causing major eardrum damage for sure, but come on...he is supposed to be able to lead a major company. The stress of potential disintegration should be considered a learning experience to help him better manage his company under duress.
Apparently he didn't feel the same way as his final message mentioned that he had ejected himself with my favorite escape pod (which I had just finished refurbishing, and wasn't paid off yet), and even threatened me that I would spend the rest of my life knee-deep in legal legislation.... Seriously, what kind of people are these passengers, robbing an honest hard working pilot of their income for no good reason... :)

To be fair, they only paid 25M, so should have expected to get some scrapes :)

I remember taking a passenger to Sag A*, found out when I decided to visit Colonia they didn't like scans so certainly added to the fear on the trip back

Some people can be so dammed picky!!!

Personally, I would sue them; for breach of contract.

The bigger the reward the less forgiving. I lost a 27 mil sightseeing mission once from one scan.

just use heatsinks instead of boosting. problem solved. bring extras pop them like candy

Yep. Silent running, low emission power plant, clean5 drives, chaff and heat sinks. See me if you can ;)

Well I blew off my steam, and I am feeling a lot better. I think I will switch over to cargo runs and sporadic bounty hunting before I head out to the rift anytime soon. I think I am still done with the long range passenger missions. I still think there should be two buttons on an active passenger mission "eject into space" and "Threaten to eject into space". Sure both of those should gain you a signifigant bounty and reputation loss, but it would be very Cathartic.

I've never done and never will do these missions because this is exactly what I'm afraid of. 3 weeks of time wasted just to earn 50mil? No thanks. I can earn a billion in 3 days only risking a rebuy or two. After the patch, it will be a fifth that. The 500+ ly passenger mission is just another one of Frontier's many failures based on the game theory ignorance that assumed getting screwed is fun. Well did you enjoy getting screwed?

Sung to the tune of "London Bridge":

Silent Running is your friend,
is your friend,
is your friend,
Silent running is your friend,
you should use it.

It helps keep you from getting scanned,
getting scanned,
getting scanned,
It helps keep you from getting scanned,
learn to use it.

When you do not want to be scanned,
do not speed
do not speed.
When you do not want to be scanned,
just do not speed.

No, really, I mean it. Silent Running is the make-or-break when it comes to these sorts of missions.
It will help you get out of stations without getting scanned (Criminal Passengers/Scan Crybabies) and help you get back in as well.
And not speeding - you look suspicious when you come barreling out of a station flying like you just stole a ship. You're going to get scanned, so don't do it.
You also look suspicious when you come barreling at the mailslot like a sailor on shore leave, and you're way more likely to get scanned there as well.

Of course, it is quite possible to come at the mail slot full-bore, slide right though and cut your throttle all in one smooth motion and dodge being scanned as well, but the best method is still:

Of course, I am also very curious to know how a passenger would even know the ship they're on had been scanned. Do they have some kind of scan-detector implant?
If so, then we need an engineer for Cabins to install dampeners to block these. I'll take the extra mass for the lead-lining to dampen their scan detectors.

I've got to disagree with this. If you managed to get scanned while speeding you were going too slow or you wrapped your ship around the toast rack. Silent running is just a suspicious as speeding if not more so, you could have legitimate reasons for wanting to speed such as meeting a deadline or maybe you suffered a canopy breach. My tips for smuggling (as this is really just the same):

1. Get allied with the ruling faction before you undertake any dodgy business. As a 'respected Ally' of the faction you're less likely to get scanned and security is easy to see on the scanner.

2. Include plenty of legit business and when it doesn't matter, let yourself get scanned. It's about establishing a cover and also playing the odds in your favour. If they scanned you and you were clean there is less chance that they will scan you next time.

3. When you are running hot, speed is you friend and by speed I mean in excess of 300 m/s. If you minimise the time security has to potentially scan you, most times they won't even think about it or if you're very unlucky you are close enough to the mail slot to dive in and get shielded by the station (you have to duck behind the walls). I've run plenty of wanted passengers in my Asp Explorer without any trouble but then again she can just about reach 460 m/s

I run all my passenger missions in a Cobra IV, which has a maximum boost speed of 304ms. I lost it once, because I tried to cover 3kms in under the 10 seconds required for the scan to complete. However: I also got away from a planet base after a scan completed; because I knew the I would not make the landing pad in time, once the scan started. So I just lifted the landing gear and did a Sir Robin as soon as the scan started; so when the scan completed and I became wanted. I was about 5 seconds from hitting super cruise, so I could jump out of the system and return after 10 minutes to complete the mission; very carefully.

I agree 100% that speed in the key. Along with awareness of what is going on around you and taking decisive action, when things don't go to plan.

I just flew a three week long passenger mission, and when I finally got them back home I scrapped up my hull a bit and they wanted to get off to "find a new pilot" Seriously? There needs to be an "eject from ship" button on the mission screen, I'll deal with the bounty, but that is some serious bull.

I lost out on a 26 million credit reward because they didn't want to be scanned, and the default landing gear control requires that I press the boost button foe just the right amount of time! I will not ever waste any more time on these bull passenger missions!

Also I would have understood if I was on the frontier and dropped near a star and damaged my ship, but at the very last possible moment to get nothing? What good are any of these in game governments if a customer can just stiff me like that.

I understand the frustration here, given you got the home. Only way I can see this working is if Fdev ensured you got part of the payment, or the contract sets out the % loss of failing to meet their needs. So in your case any damage to the hull means you get 30% less in credits, not 100%.

However, this would require a level of depth that Fdev haven't been known to add on anything other than combat.
