Password protect "Clear Save" function?

While I understand some CMDR's out there want this deletion functionality, it's something that I'm sure a lot of us playing Elite Dangerous have a tough time sitting with. Many of us put a large amount of time and effort into our profiles and would never dream of deleting that progress.

Would it be possible to have a more secure deletion process to ensure players don't accidentally delete their profile/progress?
(Not asking to get rid of it, just asking for a more intentional step rather than a confirmation message and a button which can easily be overlooked or clicked through accidentally...[noob])

Possible Solutions:
• Confirm deletion by repeating a term or phrase such as "DELETE PROFILE" in all caps.
• Confirm deletion with password.
• At very least provide a toggle to hide that functionality. (Would advise to do the above rather than this so users don't forget that they shut it off.)
• Take option out of the menus and have the deletion process through website. (Add short statement in game about how to delete profile on the site.)

Totally open to other options, just listing a few off the top of my head.

Thank you!

I definitely agree with this considering that its sitting very inconspicuously at the bottom of the options menu. Not to mention most websites make you enter your password to remove your account.

+1 from me; I've accidentally entered the menu before.

Always -very- careful not to go through quickly through the Main Menu just in case.

A simple confirmation prompt in the veins of "Are you sure you want to lose all your progress?" would do the job, methinks.

Totally go for password confirmation or e-mail confirmation or something. I've heard stories of people whose brothers or "friends" prank them by erasing their characters no only in this but in other games.

+1 and rep.

IMO a simple "Are you really, really sure you want to do this?" button should suffice. o7

All the extra "are you sure" buttons are just extra clicks; not really safeguards against "friends" or malfunctioning VA macros etc.

Definitely needs a textbox or other confirmation mechanism than just another click. It's not something somebody would do regularly (one would think) so it's not like it would be a nuisance.

I think password might be a little much, but a good solution non the less.
At least a timer on the confirmation to prevent accidental double clicks. Hold down the delete button for 5 seconds to be sure that you really, really want your save deleted.
Timers, toggles, password, email confirmations, something that lowers the pucker factor when you're close to the delete item on the menu.

this, ever since i have to open controls option to load the new keybindings(don't know how this is a bug) I am very anxious to delete my save by accident.

The password could be displayed in the bottom (where you could change it), so you would not run the risk to forget it, it's just so that you would need to deliberately punch it in the required field to deliberately open the "clear save" option.

+1 for this idea. I accidentally deleted my year long hard-earned CMDR on Christmas Day of all days! The level of gut wrenching disappointment was a little out of proportion considering it is only a game. I managed to make up the year's work in about two weeks though. Just shows how much skill one develops playing this game, Ch 4 bugs not withstanding...
