We have single player. It's called solo.

LAN Solo and true SP would be nicer, not only for pause, we could use it for fun but currently solo is true skinner box.
And solo is used to cheat players in open.

I've conducted a few further tests; it looks like the maximum time the game allows for the image write is 67 seconds, beyond that and the game shuts down and the crash data upload screen is presented. So much for my makeshift pause function, no way I can squeeze a wee out in that timeframe![]()
Yes, I realise that. What I've been trying to demonstrate is the feasibility of allowing a Solo instance to pause. I don't play this game as much as I'd like because I know I'm going to have to leave the computer at a moments notice during a play session, usually only for a couple of minutes at a time. I've been minutes into a furball before and had to quit out. Now, more often than not, I choose a different game to play, one that can be paused, which thankfully is every other game that I own.Sorry, this is an online game. If you want to 'pause' you have to exit the game.

Anyway, I'm going to stick a thread in the Dangerous Suggestions forum, it looks technically possible.
Can't pause. Shall we discuss it some more?
I find it annoying when wanting to pause the game that I am presented with a dialog that effectively says "Are you sure?", while my ship continues flying behind the screen. So I have two requests:
1. Could it be made possible to exit immediately to menu with a single key-press without requiring confirmation? (unless this already exists in the options - I'll check this in a moment)
2. When playing in Open, I fail to see the justification for not allowing a genuine pause even while in combat. Granted, the background simulation can't be paused, but if I'm hosting an instance for myself only, why shouldn't I be able to pause immediate gameplay etc so I can step away from the computer quickly?

My answer: This is absurd. You are not playing single player. You are part of the same LIVE universe. You are just effectively shadowbanned.
I'm turning in an assassination mission. Alarm goes off. Balls, I'm late for class PAUSE.
Come back from classes ten hours later. Turn in assassination mission.
This is silly in my opinion.
Forget the galaxy for a moment. Imagine instead this is a racing game. Imagine you are on lap 3 at the 1st turn and you are in 2nd place and drafting behind the leader. You feel the urge to pee. You want to just pause the game and all the other real life players in the game to just keep going around that track, unable to take your spot, while your car magically drafts behind the leader, whomever that may be, until you return?
If you've ever played any multiplayer game, you know you cannot do that. You can die and while the death cam is panning around, you can do whatever you want, but you cannot, in the midst of a battle, just pause the environment and return to it where you left off while others are still moving along. It's not parallel universes. This seems like common sense.
Yeah, but you can't. (Dem worlds n planets keep spinning y'all).
In solo nobody can affect anyone else, basically all pause would need to do is stop all ships in the area, all timers and spawning of npcs.
Its simple as solo doesnt affect noone else at all.
Even though Bugbear hasn't clarified his post, the thread title is "Pausing game while in Solo".
Here's another analogy for you - imagine playing a computer game where you are the only person in a level. You've made sure that no one else can join your level. Your actions in the level will not affect anyone in their own games until you leave that level. What difference does the active state of that level make to other players while you go and enjoy a hot streaming jet of relief?![]()
