Pay to win?

With all the concern about the removal of the promised 25% insurance discount, I am particularly concerned that along with the already expensive wear and tear mechanic, Frontier are planning to go down the Pay-to-Win route. I may of course be more than a little paranoid here, I've heard David Braben say before that the only 'buyable' items would be cosmetic changes and of course the expansion packs, I'm perfectly happy with that... But with all the current controversy, I would really appreciate some clarification on this, has there been a significant change in direction (like with the removal of the offline mode?)... What do you guys think? Is this actually happening?

It's so easy to cheese credits /gear that i kinda seriously doubt it. No wipe after all the gamma credit bugs and you can just email FD and tell them a glitchy station broke ur kitted anaconda. They will literally credit your account with the replacement costs.

If credits == FD income they wouldnt let people have them so easy.

i agree... yep, you're paranoid.

W&T will get adjusted (personally i think its a TAD too high right now, or accumulates a bit too quickly)

the adjustments to the backer perk for insurance actually equals out to a whopping 1% increase in the deductible for module insurance. again, not a big deal except for the bean counters.

my biggest gripe is tomorrow when i want to be sitting outside and inside stations watching new people commit suicide by ramming the station or shooting it, i will actually be spending a good part of the day out in the rain replacing a water pump on one of my brothers work trucks as he isnt going to have the time. (oh joy)

Seeing as they gave out a 6-pack of Cobra paint jobs for free, I think they are doing just fine.
Plus David said they already have the money to keep the standalone game running for a long time.
They will make the money for all the DLC, I'm positive.

Already done that, any more suggestions?

:D

Well, if Fun With Foil is done with, I'd probably just settle on taking a step back before you slip down the conspiracy pit. There's more judgement given and attention paid to the dealings of a video game maker than gets paid to real banks and governments.

Like hockey in Montreal, even the guy who cleans up the toilets can make the news; not because it's important, but because it's anything at all and can get spun larger as needed. I find that mentality can come from too much forum. And Montreal plays in an arena called the Forum! Coincidence? Almost definitely.

Ice see what you did there ;)

I'm siding with those who say you are being paranoid but would suggest instead of the tinfoil hat you go with a full body wrap. it won't help but at least you'll blend in with all the xmas turkeys so nobody will notice you ;)

Originally there was an intention to sell credits like Star Citizen is doing (see Kickstarter). Thank the baby Jesus, Buddah's bum, or Allah's mum that they saw the light and changed their mind on that.

What removal of the discount?

No you're not being paranoid.

It will come. It wont be like most Pay-to-Win games though. Will try to keep the appearance of not being so.
Likely just being able to buy game credits, which in itself doesn't make it like all those other pay to win games but it is close.

He thinks the insurance got removed, but all they did was patch it to apply to the ship alone instead of the ship and all modules installed.

Okay, the effective removal of discount, it's still in there, it's just become almost meaningless now...
