Paying off bounties

So I just got my first bounty and was docking with a station to pay it off, got scanned then refused entry and ship destroyed. If I was attempting to leave the relevant authority with an active bounty then maybe that makes sense but not when I'm going to pay off the bloody thing! It makes even less sense given the circumstances; got the bounty "trespassing" on a surface scanning mission where the mission was 'our relay is broken, go fix it'.

Either allow me to pay off a bounty at a safely distant legal contact, at most limited to being the same superpower or region (if independent) or don't shoot me out of the sky when I'm literally on my way to pay for the thing you're shooting me for.

If you go to the galaxy map set the filter to show "Interstellar factor". Jump to a station in that system that shows having it and you'll be able to pay off any fines or bounties you have.

Not sure how you expected the game to know you were trying to hand yourself in rather than about to perform yet more nefarious acts against them. As sensei says, IF is your friend.

You must have not played the game much in your 4 years. Still, not much point in having a whine and asking for changes just because you don't know what you are doing. Merry Xmas.

There is already places where you can pay off bounties you have, these are called interstellar factors.

Now for the fun stuff, even if you would have managed to dock, you would have been given a free ride to the nearest detention ship, for being a criminal. even when you want to make it right and pay of your bounty! So to avoid this extra trip, visit an interstellar factor.

I got an interstellar Empire bounty for doing settlement scan missions. Being unable to purchase fuel, I turned myself in from an Imperial jurisdiction where I am not otherwise wanted. It did not clear my bounty. I'm on the prison ship and I still can't buy fuel... I need to be able to buy fuel...

But, I am innocent!
... no you weren't?

You basically committed a crime (thus, the bounty), rocked up to the police and said "Here I am, arrest me please!"

Like para handy said... if you get a parking fine, you can pay that off. But you were a wanted criminal, so of course you were sent to prison. That's the difference between a fine and a bounty.

Fine = Amount you have to pay to clear your name
Bounty = Amount you will lose when you are brought to justice

It's why IF exists; to clear your name more discreetly.

If I didn't happen to have a carrier that I can jump to my location, I would be literally stuck here.

As a permanent criminal one learns how to counter silly stations and scanning feds.
POP A sink!!
All my ships have em. For good reason
Your scanned you pop sink and fly straight in no problems.

Yeah this...

I wrote this thread years ago about the C&P system and how it's basically back-to-front... it's no deterrant and entirely manageable for career criminals, but is basically a royal pain for unprepared "lawful" commanders who've never even considered the consequences of a crime, let alone the differences between fines and bounties.

Was this in Odyssey?

Superpower bounties are broken af. Handing yourself in doesn't clear them AFAIK... and they're meant to kick in after you get a certain value of bounty within that superpower's jurisdication.

However, it seems to be dependent on number of individual bounties rather than their value, and it doesn't care which jurisdiction they occur in.

For example, I once had an over-5m credit bounty with a Federal minor faction. I had a combined 200k of bounties across several other Federal and Independent factions with no more than 20k per bounty, and got an interstellar bounty in Imperial space after a 600cr bounty got issued (by an imperial minor faction).

I've noticed in Odyssey, you simply cannot pay off an interstellar bounty anywhere, and handing yourself in doesn't work either. Jumping to Horizons lets you pay it like usual at any IF.

Thanks, it was in Odyssey. I'm back to report that logging to menu clears the bounty after handing myself in or being destroyed.
