PC Gamer review rates Elite very high

Admirable review. Definitely on the positive side but it remains to be seen if Frontier can live up to fleshing out the universe. Just gonna have to be patient. I hope they re-review the game in a year or so.

Yeah... I'm rather surprised.

"Frontier has drawn a line under the game's lengthy beta at a point where it is, arguably, feature complete"

I mean, arguably it isn't. You can't even talk to NPCs yet, and many of the features are a bit... unstable at the moment. Don't get me wrong; I bought the game fully expecting that it was going to be one of those big, growing projects, and that I wouldn't consider it "finished" on the 16th. But still. Compared to the many space sims that followed the original elite games... it really does far less at the moment. It just does it with a lot of style.

I like how he starts

"In part, Dangerous is great because it is boring. This is a sim, committed to its own part-science, part-fiction set of rules and mechanics. It's not interested in being a piece of entertainment that you pick up and consume. "

It's very true of the game and one of his greatest strength IMHO
And it's very uncompromising (but rewarding)

By its nature it's supposed to grow, unlike say ELITE or Frontier so I suppose a rereview in 12 months it's likely

For a game that's only been in full-time development for 2 years I think Frontier have done a fantastic job. They deserve all the praise they get.

always told you that ED will get good review scores in professional mags, because those editor can glimpse beyond the border.

Cue the told you so's and reviewers are bought off shills comments...

Either way...it is great to see the game get top level praise. Only means good things for the rest of us as we watch the development unfold over 2015.

I think it's more than that - they are looking at it with fresh eyes and with an open mind - and on that basis, it is already a hugely impressive product in the games market place - and with planetary landings, it is only ever going to mature.

I think most of the reviewers see the work that has gone in to this in a relatively short dev time to produce a stable, working game as opposed to the rushed unfinished fodder that has become the norm lately for PC gaming. ED isn't finished either but at least they admit it.
They see the potential and seem to want to give ED the backing to achieve the great things it seems to promise.

These reviews just show that you cannot thrust them. How can a game with "somewhat shallow foundations" (and that's putting it mildly) get 86% score with "editor's choice" mark? I'm just baffled by these reviews. Honestly I did not expect to see scores in 8-10/10 range at all. I wonder if these people played the game for more than couple hours. It seems like they are rating the game's potential, not the actual game.

its fun to show reviews for the latest ubisoft games and then Elite Dangerous and ask 'ok why is kickstarter a bad thing?'

I think another thing that helps is that isn' t someone like Angry Joe doing the review. They are treating the title with the respect it deserves and are passing it for review to people who have experience with it and/or the type of games.

+1

I think we have a Pearl of a Game here.
Lets make it even better over the time!

Wow, the game is just getting butchered by the press. I guess all the chicken littles where right all along.

I would reply my good Sir, but this marvelous detection device made out of something irony, will have to be doused with cold water, as to not burn a hole into my Owl decorated draperies. :)
