PC games with a great story narrative?

I love that game!

Been trying to find it again somewhere since I sold my hard copy.

Probably won't work on windows 10 though. Lol

I've spent a bit of time with HW today - it's definitely aged but still fun gameplay. Found it lurking in my undownloaded Steam library.

However, on W10 it works , but there are terrible problems with the mouse stuttering. There is a fix for this someplace, as I remember going through it on an older rig, somehow destroying the .iso I had made from original product yonks ago, and having to buy it on Steam in the first place :D

Bizarrely though - after an unclean exit, my system now has absolutely no sound at all - so instead of going for beers out this afternoon in gorgeous sunny weather - I'm going to be stuck inside troubleshooting that :(

Well - after a bit of tinkering around - it appeared that my Razer Leviathan had actually died. Before plugging in an old Logitech set and throwing it in the bin, I decided "why not?" - opened the service port and reflashed the firmware via USB. Works now!

Gonna throw my two cents worth into this thread to subscribe and keep an eye on suggestions from other players if this thread lives...

I've enjoyed the Crysis series, but boo EA.
Far Cry series, UbiSoft which will be just as bad as EA pretty soon.
While on UbiSoft, Watchdogs yay, Watchdogs 2 nay. The Crew, a driving game with some story but more bugs than you can think of and no developer support. "Let's just roll out The Crew 2." No Thanks.
GTA series has to be up there. Anything open world has to be up there.
Alien Isolation? Play it late at night in the dark with headphones. But BYO spare underwear. Do some research before buying it though.

But on a serious note, if I had to recommend games that's worth parting with your hard earned cash, I'd have to say try any of the following:

Deus Ex Human Revolution and Mankind Divided. Multiple endings, thinking mans game, replay value.
Just Cause 2 & 3. May get repetitive after a while but still, replay value.
Kane & Lynch Dead Men and Dog Days. Interesting story. Something different.
Mafia 2 & 3 has been mentioned already but be prepared to reboot Mafia 3 often to work around the bugs.
Doom series, yeah there is a story in there somewhere, typical corridor/linear FPS shooter.
Half Life 2 and all the add on bits. If you own a PC and haven't played this game, there is something wrong.
Finally, I can't believe no one mentioned this but Wolfenstein. The New Order and The Old Blood. Linear but there is a story. An interesting one.

Happy hunting and thanks for the suggestions on this thread.

Now an old game, the original SW:KOTOR had imo, the best well-crafted sw story (which also involved the player), since the original movies.

For first person games, I really liked the story told in Dishonored, Bioshock and Bioshock Infinite, Brothers in Arms 1 and 2 (not 3), and a little indie jem A Story About My Uncle.

For top down style (Baulders Gate...ect) I just picked up Divinity Original Sin on the Steam Sale, I heard many goo things about that. Pillars of Eternity has very good buzz too.

Ofcourse all the Zelda games are great too if you have Nintendo consoles. :)

-The witcher series, obviously, but you must be tired to read that.

-Recently, I enjoyed a lot "The Sexy Brutale", a very clever puzzle game with a very nice story and very good dialogues, though they're not spoken. The soundtrack is great.

-You probably know this one: "Inside", from the makers of "Limbo", is a work of genius. A narrative powerhouse, with one of the most unsettling atmosphere ever. All that without a single word. Play it if you haven't, it's too good to be ignored

-Chaser is an old FPS, anterior to the first Far Cry, and I think it was underrated. While the game itself was a really decent FPS (some gunfights were epic), the real surprise came from the storyline, which was looking towards Totall Recall. Well executed, hooking as hell, and very satisfying. I think I loved this game quite a lot, it was something special to me. It's showing its age, now, and I'm only referencing it for the sake of memories. Trailer does not represent the game well at all, so here is some music instead. Some soundtracks were incredibly moody.

-The Metro series is very good, in all departments, including storytelling. This is especially true of "Last Light". It's a well known title, now, but I'm surprised that no one around me has bothered to try it, so maybe it's not that well known.
