PC Gets hot and smells weird.

Sadly no. I wish it were that, but I fear its much much worse. My PC could be defective or something, and I'm just now noticing it. Weird how its only on planet zoo where it smells like this though..

See to me, without knowing what temperatures you're running at for each piece of hardware, I'd lean towards saying that this is a CPU issue over GPU.

The Planet series are far more intensive on the CPU than other games are and if other games run fine without any issue then it could be your processor overheating.

You really need to look at those temps and post them buddy!

Don't give up. I would contact the manufacturer or the retailer and explain to them what is happening. I've dealt with Ibuypower before, years ago, when I ordered a gaming pc from them. They were more than happy to fix the issue. (It was minor regarding my graphics card.) The only pain was sending it back to them and being without a pc for a few weeks. From the specs you provided there should not be any issues running this beautiful game. Good luck and keep us updated.

If it is indeed a production error, or something I can't easily fix, then I will send the PC back. Thanks for the help, and I'll keep you guys updated. Going to install the thing to take a look at if any of the components are getting overheated.

@Voids Light Do 3 tests.

One with the machine idling without any programs running.

One with a game you consider the machine to run perfectly with no issues

One with Planet Zoo open.

Make sure that on both planet zoo and the other game you get into some good heavy action, enough to actually make the PC want try a little, so for example if your known working game is CoD, play a few rounds before a temp reading.

As everyone else has stated here, if it is a manufacturer or seller error, you're more than likely going to be just fine.

Fingers crossed for you buddy and wishing you all the best with what comes next.

The only games I have are Planet Zoo, Gmod, Terraria, the sims 3, Sims 4, and planet coaster.

Edit: If I remember correctly, Planet coaster ran fine when I first played it, but then again, it was back when I had my monitor accidentally plugged into the motherboard, and the pc didn't start with the fumes until I plugged the monitor into the graphics card.

Maybe you should send your PC to a local repairman close to you over trying to resolve it on a forums...

Well, to be honest, I'm trying to figure out what I need to do with the PC, and figure out whats wrong before spending money or taking action. Not to mention, I trust the people here, since most of them know more about computers than I do. Plus, I don't know many local repair men with good track records for PC repairs. I could take it to best buy, but I hear that rarely is there a person working at Geek Squad that knows what they're doing.

You're going to go straight to warranty and not be out of pocket at all, it just helps to know exactly what the issue is especially when you say other games you've played haven't had this effect. Their pleminary tests may not show any issues either or they may assume it's a graphics card issue and just replace it if you say 'This game causes issues with my machine' and then when you get it back you're back at square one again if it isn't that.

At least if you give them a description of what's happening, you'll give them info to work with, show them that you have some idea what you're talking a about and maybe even put some pressure on them to double and triple check everything is running as should be before sending you back a working machine.

Whatever happens and whatever the issue is, you'll take it up under warranty and fight that corner.

So I ran the tests, and I'm about to run the final test.

Before playing and without apps running: 31 C

When playing sims 4: 62 degrees C.

70c's pretty normal temps for CPU & GPU when running a game. You might just be burning dust in your case and/or that dust could have burned something or something else faulty going on. I'd look at your warranty with Walmart & also get in contact with the PC maker's customer service, they should definitely be able to assist you in figuring this out.

I may have not played the game long enough either. I think I'm going to try playing it again and running a retest, just to make sure.. due to the fact I didn't smell it. Also, one more edit: when we cleaned out the PC, there was barely any dust at all, except on the outside of the case.

Have you blown out the dust yet with a compressed air can? Also, does the vent at the top of your case have a filter screen? If it's easy for dust to just drop down into that case that's going to be an issue. I'd recommend getting a fan inside that spot to blow air up & out (if there isn't a fan there? I don't see one in the image in your link).

edit: just saw your edit. Yeah I'd say give the game a go & just keep an eye on the temps. Something is definitely strange going on with the burning smell if it's not getting into bad temp levels. I would still strongly recommend contacting the PC manufacturer and discussing it with them, https://www.ibuypower.com/Support/support

I'll send pictures of the pc, as the link isn't as great, but it only has two fans that I'm aware of.

I don't really see a place where I could add an additional fan, and I don't know where my graphic's card is to be honest. The two fans work fine, and theres no dust. I guess I should test the game again.

Your PC should be fine from the looks of it. Watch the temps & if you get that smell again I can't stress it enough to contact the manufacturer. That's definitely not normal and none of us can really figure that issue out for you other than what we've been suggesting & asking. You also don't really need more fans if your temps are fine. I'm just fan crazy, I love fans. I have 2 on top, 2 in front, 1 in back, 2 on the side and 1 on the bottom. Fans everywhere, fans for everyone, fans for life! 🤪
