Pc handles E.D. perfectly ... but Palin Research Center is unlandable ...

Playing E.D. since launch without any problems. But when I approach Palin Research Center a graphical bug occurs that makes it impossible to land: at a distance of 2 - 3 km the setting changes to a crater and the landing pads are floating in the stone of the crater itself .... landing is impossible. I've tried changing video quality from high to low but that doesn't help.

Why is this? I need Palin. I've landed hundreds of times, but Palin Research Center is bugged to me.

Any advice?

AMD yes. Must research how to make/post a screenshot. It doesn't make sense as it's the first time this happens... my pc is still the same.

F10 to screenshot.

Upload the image to an image hosting site and link to it in {IMG} {/IMG} tags (except with "[" and "]" brackets).

Did some F10's ... where do i locate these files on my pc? Anyway, it's as in my description.... the pads are floating freely inside the crater wall.... when I approach I hit the 'rocks'.

In your My Pictures folder of your profile, sub folder of Frontier Developments i think, or Elite Dangerous. Should be easy to spot.

In "My Pictures" - there should be a Frontier sub-folder (or Elite Dangerous - can't quite remember) in there with the images in it.

Make sure you have up to date drivers (latest stable release 16.3.2 Should Work Fine™ unless you have an RX 480, in which case you will need a recent non-WHQL release). You can try disabling shader cache in AMD's settings application, E:D has its own custom settings there; that way the game will run the lengthy compilation process on startup, but it also clears out any potentially broken previous results.

Pictures uploaded in IMGUR, created an account there... now how to link here?

My card is a Radeon 6800, latest drivers installed.

View the image on imgur and copy the link that starts there's a URL here with an image extension at the end - paste it in your post.

Copy the direct link from imgur, then when writing your post either use the tags mentioned above, or click the 'portrait' icon in the toolbar.

All right ... first pictures uploaded ever ... it won't solve the problem though of not being able to land ... thx for the help so far

Some strange interesting things to try just to see what happens:
Go there with a different ship.
Land before the graphical glitches occur and do the rest of the journey in your SRV.
Be with someone else at the same time when approaching Palin's base either winged up or not.
.
When I was seeing how an old PC with a GTX550Ti would cope with ED I had some weird graphics on the surface. Removing all the old Nvidia drivers and doing a clean install of the new driver fixed it.
.

Well, I'm already in this situation for days. I don't plan to go ahead , do something else in the game and just ignore Palin, he's the engineer I've worked for. I don't think Frontier can/will solve this for me. Perhaps it's time to upgrade my pc... but it's so strange... everything in ED worked so far without any problems, untill now.

Did you try Shadowdancer's suggestion about disabling the shader cache in AMD's settings application?
.
What is your full PC spec?
Maybe just a new graphics card is needed.
.

I didn't find AMD's settings application. I have Catalyst control Center, didn't help at all.

Win 7 home edition, Intel Core i7 CPU 950, 3,07Ghz, 3059 Mhz, 6 Gb RAM, AMD Radeon 6800 HD.

It's been a long time since I've upgraded. Not looking for the most expensive but for the best price/quality solution that will guide me through the next 4 years.

That dates the drivers to at best 2015. Also, looking at the requirements, the HD6000 series is numerically speaking not meeting the minimum requirements, and the series is no longer receiving support.

You can get legacy drivers here: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop/legacy?product=legacy3&os=Windows+10+-+64. The "crimson" beta release might work for you, that also would have support for shader cache. If memory serves me right, you need to manually create a custom profile for the game and disable "AMD optimised shaders" for it to work.

If you want to upgrade, the new RX 480 is getting good reviews, and for a little bit more money you can get nvidia's 1060. Both should be good value for some time to come.

Hey Kzak, went to install a docking computer, first time in Ed, but the same thing happens: the docking computer gets me stuck in the crater: the ship is already 6 minutes trying to dock ... in rocky walls.

@ Shadowdancer: I think i've installed that crimson before when i upgraded to Win 10 and the game didn't work anymore, I've uninstalled Win 10 already again. I'll have a look though at the drivers. I've read about the two cards you've proposed ... can i keep the motherboard I have or is that a bad idea? And maybe up my RAM to 8 Gb?

The Radeon 6800 probably only has 1GB RAM and that won't be helping Horizons, although I can't find the source now I thought it was best to have at least 2GB.
.
There are several new graphics cards from Nvidia (I like Nvidia) out at the moment - GTX 1060 / 1070 / 1080, all with more performance and lower power requirements compared to what they replace.
.
The choice depends on your existing PC's motherboard and Power Supply. The GTX 1060 only requires a 400W power supply, uses 120W and needs a 6-pin supplementary power connector. Check your power supply has the connector or get an old style 4-pin to 6 pin convertor.
The GTX 1060 is PCIe 3.0 but these usually work with motherboards that are only PCIe 2.0.
.
More system RAM is always better, so 8GB would be good.
