I too am considering this option. Let me throw this out there and hopefully get some feedback.

I just built a new computer and have a GeoForce GTX-970 video card. I am looking to pick up a flat screen for the wife, and sneak in the occaisonal elite session when I can. Would a 50" LCD 1080p with 120hz refresh get the job done? My video card has an HDMI output ( along with 2 game port and 2 diff DVI ports sheesh), should I just stick with HDMI?

Yes, absolutely... My game looks gorgeous. Great framerate.

I play Elite on my 50" sometimes via HDMI. You should have no problems there. I have the 970 too, great card isn't it :)

This was a major upgrade for my computer, I am absolutely blown away by this video card setup. I run absolutely everythigng at the max, and this card does not even break a sweat.

Have you tried the DSR feature yet? If you haven't, be prepared to be blown away again ;)

DVI to HDMI here. Connected to an HDMI switcher which is then connected to a 60" LCD. I enjoy it thoroughly, and do get sound through mine.

I also use a 40" flatscreen TV at 1080P via HDMI and the game looked great yesterday.

Today, they did something weird to the backgrounds and they look a bit pants, but everything else is good. ;)
