Pedigree/family tree

I would appreciate this being implemented too :)
If inbreeding is going to be a negative thing in the game, I'd like to see some way of managing/tracking breeding animals. As it is they have to be manually renamed to keep track and if we're going to be manually renaming things anyway I would rather the babies came out with the names of the parents (Mother's name x Father's name) or something, then manually rename the litter to give them 'proper' names.

I would also really like a real family tree.

For now I have a naming scheme that works really well for me for animals with one alpha male:
Put the generation of the animal in front of their name, and name the stud bock something so you always recognize it.
For example: I buy a few female and one male pronghorn antelopes. I put "1" in front of their names. Then, when they have offspring I put "2" in front of their names. As soon as the first female pronghorn with a 2 in front of her name becomes an adult, I know that I have to switch out the male to prevent incest. The new male gets called "2 something", and all of his offspring "3 name". And so on. That makes breeding way easier imo because I immediately know where there's risk of incest.
Renaming a bunch of animals is actually pretty easy in the all animals in the zoo list because you can press the tab key to apply the name you're currently renaming and switch to the next animal. I made a makro key on my keyboard that types tab, arrow left, a number, space

Ah I did not know this! I might have to look into a similar thing.

That's a very good idea! Going to do that from now on as well! Thanks

Oh I think I'll adopt that system! Definitely would help a lot since I started out with trying to keep an excel sheet but I was breeding Peafowls like crazy and releasing all of them into the wild to build up CCs and it was just exhausting to try and do that. Would just be easier if we had a better way of telling who was related.

It would be really really handy to see the names of the parents of an animal. There is a stud book, but it barely tells you anything. Especially with the game time going so bloody quick, and loads of offspring, I can't keep up and remember who shouldn't breed with who. Parent information on the animals would help a great deal.
At the minute to tell them apart I make sure the parent's are the only two that can breed. So I buy the animals and decide who is the most compatible, I give the pill to the one's who were unlucky. SO. Once the lucky couple have had babies, as soon as their born I go on to the Zoo tab and then the Animal section (I filter the specific species by age) and I give all the babies the pill. Leaving the parents the only breeding two. That way you will be sure not to inbreed. Once the parents are too old or one of them dies, I give the remaining parent (or both if I decide to when they're old) the pill and choose the baby with the best stats. Then I breed it with one of the unrelated adults I bought at the beginning if they're still young enough OR I buy another. 😁

But a family tree would make all this hassle so much easier. LOL.

This would be great. I know my flamingos are probably inbreeding, but I am strict with the big cats and canines.
A family tree would be great! And probably easy to implement.

You can avoid inbreeding by using Compare Mates, if I recall correctly it is under Genetics. When I build exhibits I put A1 after the original occupants' names to avoid selling them by mistake.

Yeah, you can use Compare Mates :) Tbh I think more info on the inbreeding mechanism would be helpful too. How 'close' do animals have to be in terms of relations for the mating to be considered an inbreed? I've definitely seen the warning come up on brothers/sisters but not tried with less direct relatives. I'd love to know stuff like that (rat breeder geek over here!)
