Newcomer / Intro Penalty for Failing/Abandoning Missions? (Solo and Online)

Hi folks.

Is there a penalty for failing to complete (or even abandoning) a mission? I'm still in Solo play, but I'm wondering if the same answer applies to online play.

some quets do have penalties for failure it will be listed on the details page under fine , near the bottom if i remember (havent done quests for a while!) and its the same if your in open of solo

You will also lose rep with the faction you had the mission for.

I got a bit frustrated yesterday when I failed a mission to find personal weapons only by a few minutes. So the next time I found a mission where I had to find a specific commodity I did not accept it but first went to find the items and then returned to the station for the quest. Is this something that works every time, or is there a chance the mission get's replaced before the time runs out? Seems like a great way of doing some missions "risk free".

Sometimes the mission has gone when you get back, sometimes it is still there. You can always sell the goods you brought if the mission is gone!

Its a good idea when you pick on an area to "improve" that you find a planet that can supply each of major areas. Foods, Metals, Non-Lethal Weapons, Tech etc.
Or use Slopeys tool. It has many tools, each of which you can use to your own moral limits.

If I see a supply mission listed I check to see if there are trade routes nearby that are dealing in that commodity before accepting the mission. If there aren't, I ignore that mission (I just hate to let people down)

You can lose rep which eventually will get them to be unfriendly to you. You may see that you can't get some missions because the faction doesn't trust you. So you won;t get those missions.
