Perfomance help

Hey, I don't know if anyone knows some way to improve my computer perfomance, the game runs very good when I'm in space, but once I get close to a station my framerate drops a lot! I was expecting this, my laptop config isn't that good:

Intel i7 3610QM 2.3ghz
8gb ram DDR3
Nvidia Geforce GT 630M 2gb DDR3

I'm guessing there's too much smoke and fog in the station, my graphic card never handled that well. Is there any way to disable these effects? I'm used to play with less than 30fps, but it would be good to play it at 30 at least, docking is a little more harder than it should be. Living in a country where a decent computer costs as much as motorcycle sucks.

Any tips?

Good to the Options --> Graphics. I would try using medium settings, FXAA, try setting Bloom and Shadow quality to low or medium.

What graphics settings are you currently running?
The game set it automatically on med, but of course it wouldn't work, so I dropped it to low, so all the options are in the minimum they should be. I even reduced the resolution from the native (1366X768) to 1280X720, but appeared to be worse.

I turned all music off too, as well as the computer voice. This seems to have helped a lot. And you get to hear the cool sound effects better!

I set everything as low as I could and it still is pretty bad, I was thinking a more manual way of lowering it, like editing a .ini or something like that

Tar Stone

If you drop the resolution but change your nvidia control panel settings to NOT apply DPI scaling you'll get a big performance boost.

Ill look for that setting myself Tar Stone, i get reasonably good performance on a 5 year old machine with a GTX 295, but always looking for things to boost it. I typically get about 30fps in station though, which is fine for me and better than it was during Gamma 1. I should note that i am basically using the high preset with no FXAA... more details when i get back

My recommendation would be to try no FXAA, bloom and ambient occlusion either off or low and see what happens. let us know what your testing provides,

Also try ctrl+al+delete and let us know what processes are running, and how much elite client is using.

Sure, I will get back after my tests. I noticed something wrong with my graphic card yesterday, I formated my pc and isntalled windows 8.1 and I can't force any program to use the card, so I'm down to luck if it will use it or not, but Elite seems to be using it, the tray bar indicator I have is showing that it's using it. So I might not even be able to change the DPI setting you talked about Tar.

I will do a clean install of all drivers later and see what I get

Like I said in the post above, I just formated my computer, there's not much processes running

Ok, I've opened the game again and a lot of the effects are now gone, I guess you need to restart for most of the changes to take effect. And I locked the refresh rate to 30hz, it's WAY better now.
