Newcomer / Intro Permits

Just flew out to Witch Head. I see in other comments it and everything beyond it is locked.
Please tell me every nebula in this game isn't locked. Yes I see you can take a route through it, that's not what I want.

ok I will tell you that its not every nebula :)
the Witch Head nebula is a very rare exception as its connected to some lore that has not yet been revealed. (home of the Thargoids? guradian home world? some other alien stuff? we don't know yet ) and it will likely be added in a future update when the time comes.

There are permit locked system that seem - at least to me - they have no reason to be locked. Mind you, the ones I've seen are all in the bubble. As @metatheurgist says, If we have future updates....
They are mini achievements and you can find ways to gain entry, see the list of permits https://elite-dangerous.fandom.com/wiki/Permits#List_of_Permits
the rewards varies, sometimes they can give special discounts, or exclusive trade items. If nothing else it can give a edge in trading to get access to a system that few others have.

the only inhabited system I think you can't get into atm is Polaris.

1: Hey lets put a bunch of colorful stuff close to the starting area and then shut it down for years and not label it so every new player flies directly to it and is immediately disappointed and has nowhere in that entire region to go!! It will be the greatest troll move ever...
2: Wow, I'm putting you in for a raise.

Witch Head isn't locked nor is everything beyond it: Orion, Barnard's Loop, etc. The problem is that the whole Col 70 Sector is locked and it lies between the bubble and Witch Head blocking flights straight to Witch Head. You can avoid Col 70 Sector by plotting a journey to the underside of Witch Head. If you're not too high up in the bubble (say not higher than Sol) you should just be able to plot a route to Evangelis. Otherwise jump down 50 ly or so (direction Achenar) and try again.

I get what your saying but I feel like your trying to correct me with a technicality. It's permitted and clearly access is blocked unless you have a ship with X Jump range and know how to get through/around the block, which makes it very discouraging for a reason to even want to go in there then.

Wrong on both counts - well, the X ly jump range is technically true, but that's true for every journey in ED, given a sufficiently low value of X.
Now - please guess how we know that the Col 70 sector is locked and how far the lock extends in every direction. Small hint: it was not from FD.

As for the discouraging - that may be true for some people. If you're put off by that, you might want to try a different career path in ED. Other people are intrigued and try to find out more.

Not really a technicality, just that you have to find a way to get there. So you picked one nebula that has a permit-locked area in the way of a direct route - there are very many other nebulae that do not have that barrier.

Someway, somehow, someone always finds a way to throw a personal judgement into every thread on the internet. A different career path you say?
I don't find it intriguing that Frontier closed the area years ago to make content they never finished. There's no in-game story line attached to it, I flew out there for experience.
Maybe the way I flew out there as a noob with 1 mod on my FSD, figuring out Road to Riches, how to land on planets and get my SRV to work while posting questions in the forums the entire time and making a couple hundred million along the way wasn't enough to prove my worth as a video game explorer to you? Please.

I haven't said anything about your worth as a video game explorer - all I was saying that
IF you are put off by this
THEN maybe another of ED's career paths might suit you better.
I can promise you - if you continue in exploration, you'll encounter far larger "problems" than an unaccessible sector. Of which, by the way, there are multiple.

You probably need to think about what you’re saying fundamentally boils down to. Are you suggesting that a game about being a spaceship pilot shouldn’t have any navigational challenges?

Navigational challenges?
It's not closed for gameplay purposes. :D

I want to get a bit from the bubble, pick a spot near a nebula, get some money, build some ships, and try different gameplay mining and illegal stuff maybe. I may think about credits per hour but it doesn't control my gameplay. I just explore because Road to Riches is an easy way to learn the game and make money. I have dual Virplis so I really want to pew pew a bit but am clueless as to how to transition into doing that without ruining my reputation all over the universe so I'm holding off for now. :)

Ruining one's reputation is not required to get into pew pew...all that is required is a ship with some weapons and a legal mission to kill an NPC.

The mission isn't strictly required but a legal one should keep you from ruining your rep. There are a couple of tutorials for ship combat as well, which I recently revisited while traveling to Colonia on a Fleet Carrier.

I cut my combat teeth fighting Thargoid scouts which only requires a simple Alliance Chieftain build with no engineering needed, along with some patience...

They're cheap, I can do that today. On to Pew Pews!
