When under attack, Can a player send out a distress signal ?

Do you know what weapons he was using? He really should have killed you quite easily if he was using beam lasers. I'm beginning to wonder whether they are too OP...but they are a lot of fun all the same.
I'm not sure what he had, but I was packing dual gimballed beams, which is probably what saved my bacon

I love hearing this! This is exactly the sort of structure I hope to see in the final game. I want people running away or crying uncle and paying some protection money. Ships blowing up should be an undesirable result for both parties.
Even when I go after the bounty on some (NPC) pirate, I want that worthy to offer me a bribe for letting him/her go rather than grimly fighting to the death.
