This "socialization" of Elite means very little too me.

What means a lot to me is the experience I get in VR. The realism and transformation is totally awesome. The change I still hope to see is getting rid of the damn 2D window that cripples the VR experience when on "legs". For me no ability to build towns or stations or guilds can compensate for that broken part of the simulation.

I hope to hell they havent forgotten about the mess they made of that part of Elite. And do something to fix it. Until then, I will fly the black and roll on in the SRV loving the reality they have created. :)

One of the biggest issues with Odyssey when it was released was the horrible performance. In fact many people left the game at that time because it was so unplayable. I think this is why VR support was dropped for Odyssey and hasn't been picked back up, as VR requires a lot more performance again to operate.

Well aside from some recent jitteryness, which atm is but a minor thing, VR atm is flawlessly lush! Except on foot, but we all know that.

While I'm sure the VR side of things for this game is great, to experience that either costs an arm and a leg, or requires one to sign over one's soul to Meta. Ugh.

I mostly play on my own, but I am part of a squadron and have done stuff with other players, so the socialisation of the game would be more relevant.

I play in VR with a group most of whom are in flatscreen.
Never had an issue as we're all in discord voice chat.
Yes VR does demand much in terms of gpu grunt, but its worth it!

Until recently I was flying in VR with a 8 year old I7 computer and a GTX 1080 card (and an Index HMD). And it worked smooth and flawlessly.

Sometimes when I'm playing i just stop dead. Flying in supercruise towards a planetary or orbital asset and the the planet in front of me suddenly has a brightly lit corona of 'dawn' around it...just drop dead gorgeous 😍

As an explorer in VR, I would love to see more celestial POIs incorporated into the game. My work in astrophotography has opened my eyes to the beauty that is out there. Wouldnt it be cool to have a variety of photorealistic nebulae scattered thru the galaxy? As someone that worked professionally with editing & 3D software, I wonder what software they use and what it is capable of? What fun it would be to build 3D nebula to be incorporated into the game. :p

The in-game nebulae are worth making the trip out to see in VR - though due to their sheer size it’s more of a skybox thing, but it does look impressive as you jump closer and closer to it.

More impressive to my VR eyes are the volumetric clouds; most recently with the Thargoid motherships, but also in the Lagrange clouds. I hope one day gas giants will become flyable with this sort of code.

A VR-capable PC isn’t a stupidly expensive prospect these days - I played quite happily with a Rift CV1 + i5 + GTX 1080 - though I’ve upgraded a fair bit over the years to get a better experience. I’ve never regretted “selling my soul” to Oculus in return for their fantastic headsets - my longstanding Oculus account (now Meta account) requires the same personal information as does my Frontier account 😁👍
