personal sidewinder challenge

I'm pretty much committed for exploration ( its practically the only thing i do ), and i like doing it in small ships. With my dolphin i find myself able to go anywhere quite easily... actually even too easily, so I'm considering to set up a sidewinder the best i can and see how far it can go.

First obvious destination would be beagle point starting from bubble, and i'm curious to hear from players more expert than me if anybody already did that ( i'm quite new to the game), if can actually be called a challenge, or if its nothing special and already done thousands of times...

Its worth remembering that those Fleet carrier owning Triple Elite all started with there Sidewinders..

It would always be an achievement to get a Sidewinder to Beagle and back but it has been done a few times so wouldn't be a first.
One Cmdr took a stock fitted sidey to Sag A and back!

With "stock" you mean no engineering and no FSB ?

People have been visiting Sgr A* since before engineers, FSBs or indeed a route planner that could do more than 100ly at a time were in the game.

IIRC Zulu Romeo was in a MkIII when he got the first discovered tag but Sidewinders have definitely been there, possibly not before the route plotter could do 1,000ly at a time, definitely before engineers and FSBs.

Hi, I took a Sidey to Beagle and back so I thought I'd chip in.

Is it a challenge? Mostly for your patience. Depending on your build you'll get 35 to 43 ly jump range when fully engineered, FSD booster and SRV hangar having the biggest impact; FSD booster for obvious reasons, SRV because of the weight - Sidewinder is so light even the 6t hangar makes a significant difference. This means a lot of jumping... but if you're into scanning and mapping it also means a lot of credits - you'll visit more systems than you would with longer jump range. My trip from the Bubble to Sgr A* to Colonia to Beagle took over a month with ~33 ly jump range (may-june 2017, engineering was less effective and FSD boosters didn't exist yet). Looking at logs on EDSM I made approx. 3100 jumps.

The biggest challenge (other than resisting the space madness) would be crossing the Abyss instead of going around - stars are quite sparse in that region. Most likely the in-game plotter won't guide you through all of it in one go - I needed several shorter plottings in a 45 ly Vulture.

We did a whole small ships only expedition to Semotus Beacon, a system even further beyond Beagle Point which requires a jump range of 41.34ly and several premium FSD injections to reach and we also had at least 1 CMDR in a sidewinder with us.

Ok. thanks for the feedback. I slightly changed my plans.
Instead of going to beagle point, i'm going to decision point , directed to the perseus fade ( lets's see how far a sidewinter can go ), and then eventually will follow the sagitarius-carina arm, and if really i did'nt had enough, i'll do the whole counter-clockwise circle.

i highly doubt i'll do the whole loop, because i like exploring and mapping the systems, not just speed running, so the trip will take a lot of time, but i'm curious how far i will go.
Whould be great to do the while galaxy round trip in a sidy, but i just started yesterday .. we will se how much my patience ( or the ship ) will last. ;-)

If someone is interested this is my sidewinder setup
