Petition to bring back the DDF/DDA and get back on track.

Netural viewpint is that the chase for new customers over keeping existing ones is one of the driving factors and u cant argue with that needs funds to keep going
OK, I'm game, I will argue it.

Amongst other things, they are losing those existing players. Existing players who would be the source of revenue from the paid expansions. I cannot see the numbers, but it is at least plausible that they would get more money in the long term by keeping those existing customers happy, than chasing a different group. Soon there will be no new groups to chase, but the old customers will still be gone.

I think the OP made the mistake of treating the DDF as a single object, so from this perpective i cannot agree wholly with the sentiment to "reopen" it. There are some good ideas in there, some of which might still be on the cards for all we know. I just wish people would stop referring to the DDF as some sort of holy grail.

My main concern is that FD keeps adding to the game in ways that provide new and interesting things to do, whether they came from the DDF or not. So far they generally speaking have from my perspective.

1.1 Community Goals - nice idea, and we have had some good ones. Recently we have been getting more lemons, so feel FD could pick up their game more here, but the general idea is good.

1.2 Wings - can't see any reason for anyone to complain about this. Nice feature and really adds to the game.

1.3 Powerplay - personally i think it was a great idea, just badly executed (doesn't stop me participating, i'm just hoping for improvements over time). If they made the powers linked better to the factions, made each power more unique in terms of what gave you merits, and you'd get merits for doing a variety of things for your power (major example, killing enemy powers in your own territories), i think powerplay could start to shine.

Not to mention all the other things they have added or changed since release. I was particuarly happy with the new limpet controllers and stuff that came with 1.3. Thanks to those we now have the Fuel Rats operating rescue services and mining is a lot easier and more fun.

CQC, while it came out of left field like PP, its also a nice feature, enabling those who just want a quick pew-pew to get it whenever they want, sure, it won't be for everyone, but there again, most things aren't.

Bottom line, will it be nice if FD pick up on some of the things from the DDF in the nearest future? Sure, many things there that would be a nice addition. Is it necessary? Hell no. As long as they keep adding new good stuff.

Glad you are happy.

No interest in CGs. Less than no interest in PP. Never flown in a wing, and probably never will. No interest in CQC.

So, perfectly happy for them to be adding new good stuff. But other than a few crumbs here and there, I have had nothing since the beta.

another +1 to the OP here

Besides that, existing players can bring tremendous amounts of money to the games they are committed to. MOBA's are a great example where LOL brings in excess of 1bn a year to the devs, while relying purely on customers buying stuff they don't have to. (while we are not talking nearly the same playerbase numbers here, I am sure that more than 500k existing players could add tremendously to FD's bottom line, if they were engaged and monetization was merely enabled)

I am not saying that ED should go completely in that direction, (investing more time and effort into reasonably priced - ie cheap is good, sells better - cosmetics would not hurt though, or adding such obvious $.49 items as name tags) just merely that going for new customers while ignoring existing ones is a strategy set for failure, not to mention that 1.3 quite spectacularly failed to live up to expectations for large majority of the population.

At this stage it is safe to say that FD lacks focus and are "misfiring" with their updates. (on the positive end, there are updates, and they are not giving up on this game - hope dies last, right ;) )

Glad your happy also. Really.

Have to understand though that many of us backed the game based on the DDF and yeah people can say things like .. it wasn't set in stone. Etc etc. However the credibility of the process of how the DDF came into being lent it a lot of belief for people like me and other. I put 300 quid into the backing of THAT game. Not this where new stuff is being hashed out and released that was never part of the DDF.

The base game is woefully under developed and full of bugs yet we see gimmicks like PP, CQC being piled onto bare bone mountain whilst entension to consoles goes forward at pace. All this at the detriment of the game that loyal backers supported when FD needed it most.

No need to "reopen" the DDF it needs to be realised then add on gimmicks.

I personally talked a few people into backing during beta, based on the scope of the DDF and the direction it was going in at that time, as it did feel like they were implementing the DDF piece by piece. Now I feel guilty about talking those guys around given the shifts in direction since launch.

Well, can't please all the people all of the time.
Indeed, and that is not a problem. I have no issue with trying to satisfy different audiences and putting in features that I do not want. Never putting in stuff for the audience I am in, and focussing on a single combat oriented audience is a problem for me, however. So is ignoring the vision we were sold during the kick starter. If FD are actually addressing some of that, or plan to do so soon, then a quiet word is all we need.

Similar situation. I joined in alpha and talked 3 pals into it as well as 5 more into premium beta based on their questions I answered by linking to the DDF. Ashamed of myself sad to say. No one is particularly "anti" the game now but they don't play it anymore. If they aren't playing it then they aren't talking about it and recruiting more people from their circles. I was the last of the bunch to play it after I'd uninstalled after 1.3 patch 1. It'll go back on if content seems to fill out the enormous mile wide inch deep puddle we have now.
