Phrases I never want to read again (but almost certainly will)

Immersion... Yep, felt a little bit of sick in my mouth then.

It isn't so much the term that's bad, but the people who don't feel others have valid preferences. ;)

If you prefer being a "meta gamer" instead of an "immersion gamer," that's on you. It goes both ways though.

These are fairly apt terms I think, as one plays "above" and the other plays "within" a game's universe. Most people likely play somewhere between the two extremes and we all have our own thresholds for a "willing suspension of disbelief."

Open letter to FD

Why I'm quitting ED - fax off, just leave, we don't need your life story
Ship transfer - it's happening, get over it, use it to your advantage
Time sink - it's that sort of game
Immersion - you're flying a pretend space ship. It's not physically possible to fly faster than the speed of light, but the game allows it for the sake of convenience
FD don't care/aren't listening - of course they are, they're in it to make money f f s, they can't respond to every thread individually
Elite is dying/why is no one playing etc - There are plenty of ppl playing, just look how many forummers have gone into spaz mode over the ship transfer thing
Overpowered NPCs - I bought horizons two months ago, play a bit, have only encountered one of these, he stripped my shields, i boosted out. If you're out matched then run. If you can't run you'll die. As it should be.

Immersion is the feeling that it is real.
Does not need to be realistic to be immersive , it just needs to be consistent or following the lore set out by the devs.

Elite is immersive , you feel like you are in the elite universe when you play it. the bits that are not realistic fall under two types
1) science fiction , things that are linked with tech and made up ideas like FSD and so on
2) Gameplay limitations , when the gameplay limits the immersive often in horrible ways like said ship transfer but often in ways that help the game move along like cargo being loaded instantly (even if DB said it will be done in real time at some point... when that happens it will be the best game ever)

I've noticed the Elite Dangerous forums seem to have generated a lingo all of it's own, an 'Elite-speak' :p if you will.

Here's some phrases I could happily never read again. Feel free to add your own!

1) Meta
2) Salty tears
3) Popcorn
4) Pew pew
5) White Knight
6 ) Fanbois (is that French?)
7) Saying 'mah' instead of 'my'

and of course

8) Git Gud

If everyone could refrain from using these phrases in future ...

That'd be great.

How about "if everyone could refrain from.." as an overused trope to define why people shouldn't say things? I'd ask if that was too meta self-referential but the entire post is, so might as well embrace it?

Either that, or this was an actual example meta and for once someone using it in the original definition's sense is, well, "well played". Or should we add that to the list? Along with GG (good game). :)

New meta: Y'all white knight fanbois need to git gud and dry those salty tears, before I bring out mah pew pews.

Now let me get my popcorn.

:D

-Organic vegetables, y'know, as opposed to silicon-based vegetables. Organic doesn't mean curvy, it doesn't mean "no pesticides and fertilizers". It means carbon based, like every other living thing. I wish they'd trended a more appropriate word. Now I hate all vegetables.
-Molten lava. Lava's always molten. When it isn't it's called rock.
-De-thaw. You either defrost or you freeze.
-Hot-water heater to make your hot water hotter.
-Pew pew is infantile. It reminds me of po-po for police. Makes me embarrassed to be human. Go have a ba-ba when you get a boo-boo. *cringeshudderrage*
-Abbreviations that aren't abbreviations but someone trying to say "look at me! I'm an individual! I spell things wrong on purpose and it takes the same amount of letters. I'm an artist!"

And I agree with the sentiment that if you use straw man or ad hominem, even appropriately, you come off as a pretentious *** anyway. People that are smart enough to use the terms appropriately don't need to use them to stoke their ego by winning an argument with someone who doesn't even realize they've lost.
