Physical multi-crew does not live up to expectation

Couple of concerns...
  • I cannot board my friends Dolphin or T6 because it doesn’t have multi-crew seats. Why not introduce passenger seats for this wonderful new on-foot gameplay? Just like the Apex ship in alpha.
  • I cannot use my friend’s SRV if it originated from a ship that does not support multicrew. The board button is simply unavailable. Because his ship doesn’t have extra seats...
  • If my game crashes I get sent all the way back to where I first boarded their ship
  • SLF is still telepresence and cannot be landed even though it has landing gear.
  • Frontline Solutions (Vulture) has a drop pod module.
  • Scavengers (DBX) have a drop pod module.
  • We don’t get a drop pod module to drop our friends into the battles and take this wonderful new on-foot stuff to the next level.
Maybe I was expecting too much to come from this improved multicrew in Odyssey but it all just seems to make sense.

Add it to your road map? <3

While I personally think landing SLFs is too fringe to warrant attention, some of the others might be put in the game with relative ease and we should be asking for these items in the suggestions forum and whenever the opportunity arises.

  • An option prompt to rejoin the ship we were on in the event of a crash/logout.
  • a ship module that lets multi crew use the drop ship functionality.
  • SRV accessibility untethered from mothership.
I support these fully, they don’t seem like they add a ton of work but they do flesh out multi-crew.

These alone would make a massive massive difference.

Just make it so you can use the SRV, but not board the ship, from the SRV....

Anmd.. yeah, you need to be able to rejoin the ship or it's pretty darn pointless.

My wife plays Elite casually with me and we were so excited to hear that physical multicrew was coming for Odyssey. She doesn't enjoy flying that much, but was stoked to be my co-pilot and explore the galaxy with me.

Jump to the form that physical multi-crew actually landed in:

  • I can not use my trusty Dolphin to fly her around, as even though it is a PASSENGER ship, it has no way to carry an additional player. :/
  • If she boards my ship and then for example we travel 10,000 ly out of the bubble and then we have a DC or internet hiccup, she will respawn back in the station we started out. When I log back in, I will be 10,000 ly away.
  • No ability to hot drop individuals from the same drop pod asset they added for Frontline as a player.
  • No hot dropping of SRVs.
  • No option for me to swap from my trusty Dolphin to a SLF-capable ship for her to use as a short-range shuttle, land on the planet and disembark. (SLFs could have so much potential use in the 'sphere of combat' and use for general on-foot mission running if this worked as expected, and landing gear assets already exist in the game, as can be seen when selecting SLF liveries on the store page.)
  • No ability for me to allow her to use the SRV out of any of my non-multi-crew ships.
  • No new multi-crew SRVs that allow a passenger (or modularity for the Scarab to allow trading out the cargo module for an additional passenger seat).

I love the idea of physical multi-crew. It has the potential to add so much additional multiplayer gameplay to Elite. However, in the current state it has been released in, it barely adds anything at all. I truly hope that Frontier will build upon this feature and add the sensible functionality many of us expected from it, and that it won't be abandoned in it's half-baked state for years to come, as happened with the initial implementation of multi-crew.

It's because the game was never designed to do any of this. SRV's are a fudged spaceship, SLF's are a fudged instancing of another spaceship, legs are a fudged spaceship. At some point, all of the workarounds you've put in place to make it look like everything isn't just another spaceship (in a game that chokes when it isn't just displaying a simple skybox) end up being so convoluted that the things that seem obvious and simple from the outside are now IMPOSSIBLE in the code.

Honestly seriously worried that this is true.

Everything appears to simply be a tethered to the mothership.

Actually I think it is worse with the SRV usage. I would need to test it again, but I simply can't bring myself to it, but if you meet a commander who is in your team, but your ship is full (eg. a 2 seater) then they can't use the SRVs either, because the ships is "full". We had this happen when the other players SRV blew up, and we wanted him not to suffocate out in the boonies, but he couldn't get in the SRV, so had to recall the ship.

This is the most critical thing, anything else would be pointless if they don't fix this.
I really hope they can, because last I checked, we are still tied to our ships with an invisible navel cord, no matter what we do. You can't even swap to another ship you travelled to via Apex, if you forgot cargo in your other ship.

I base missions everyone need to call his own shuttle and maybe die while doing this. Why we don't have ASPEX for at least 3 players like real ships ? It could be a special ship of the ADDER nobody could ever buy just used for ASPEX.

The just added a door button inside the space station for Odyssey starting the updated part of the game. Nothing more so yes it's just half made and they forgot a lots of problems between this too easy made cut of 2 different games.

Whatever happened to those extra seats in the APEX shuttle during alpha anyway? That with the fact that boarding it said "PASSENGER SEATS" made me really hopeful we'd get additional support to haul on-foot friends around without requiring a multicrew ship.

That's because it is, you only have to look at the "current ship" stupidity with Intra Astra (can't just get into one of my many many ships at a starport without "switching ship" first...) to see what's gone on.

They designed the game to work one way originally, and have never had the balls to re-design that initial method, which worked for the first release of the game.

Yeah this is completely mad, they need to get over whatever reason they have for not storing cargo on ships, just let each ship have it's own cargo bay, and allow us to use ships as vehicles, instead of using our legs as deployable from our ship.

...except the things that don't need a "mothership". But they're impossible because the game was never designed to do any of it. But it does. So many contradictions :ROFLMAO:
