Newcomer / Intro Piceous Cobble: I'm stumped!

1. Scan it
2. Flash your lights at it
3. Shoot it

1 and 2 are often a waste of time.

Maybe I'm stupid. I checked both of those links, but i didn't see any mention of Piceous Cobble nor needle crystals. Why can't someone just say what it's for? If Piceous Cobble isn't new, when was it introduced?

They are not materials they just produce element (raw) materials when given the old pew-pew - much like the fruit on barnacles. So like meteorites and outcrops you shoot and get a material - but just one per item not the multiple units from meteorites and outcrops.

@yianniv gives a good idea of them for geological sites, biological sites have different things to shoot ( LOL ) :

The Piceous Cobbles and the various crystal forms were introduced with the planetary geological sites, it is like an outcrop or a Bronzite Chondrite that can be found on a planets surface it cannot be used for anything itself but if shot releases a lump of one of the more common engineering elements such as Iron.
