Newcomer / Intro Pictures from outside your ship

Hi
Just wondered if this is possible. I have seen some pictures around of ships either flying or in a hangar. They look really good especially the ones out in the system. Have these been photoshoped together or is there an actual way of taking a screen shot of your own ship somehow from outside?

Thanks

You can use the debug cam.
It's in the settings.
I have put it on prtscrn.

You move the cam like you would move your ship.
It is slow and a bit awkward.

I suspect we will get something better eventually.
In the meanwhile the devs enabled this for us, because we begged for it :).

As mentioned, you'll need to use the Debug Camera.

Once you activate it, use your normal flight controls to move the camera around, then just use the F10 to take the photo.

Regards

See, you too can now have pictures of your ship visiting potatoes!

Sorry I had to do it, have some rep to make up for it.

Good to see you've got it working!

For anyone else reading, the default for debug camera is [CTRL]+[ALT]+[SPACE]
Another useful one is [CTRL]+[ALT]+G to remove the HUD only. You won't get the outside of your ship in the shot, but might be handy for a quick snap of something interesting.

Only found out recently, so thought I'd pass it on.

In my experience the debug camera when it was released was not assigned to any keys - have they fixed that?

that is exactly what I want :) although I might swap your potato for the amazing ermmm "thing" i saw last night. Im not sure of all the names yet, but it was somewhere I had to dock -- the letter box was in the middle of this huge ring. It really looked impressive and Id have loved to get a picture. Next time deffo :)

thanks

The debug camera is deliberately hobbled to stop it being used for 3rd person view in combat. It won't be replaced.

Well, I don't see how a 3rd person view would help in combat if they make impossible to see the hud or use controls. They could just make it a bit more usable without giving the player the chance to use it in combat...

To take pictures in your current screen resolution press F10.

To take pictures at 4K resolution press ALT+F10.

As has already been said, to get an external camera view the default keys are CTRL+ALT+SPACE. Use your regular ship controls to move the camera. The camera is tethered to your ship and has a limited range within which it can move around it. Also you are of course unable to control your ship whilst in the external de-bug camera.

Nice tip about the G key!
