Pimax Owners/Backers Convince me!

As much as that review makes an interesting read it is a review based on the device running 'Fruit Ninja', which isn't really indicative of the devices capibilities at running Elite Dangerous or any other demanding VR title. This is one of most peoples primary concerns as I understand it.

I agree, hopefully we will get more reviews on other software soon. I am pretty sure it will run okay. Plus you can run it at 75hz too so it isn't so much of a strain on your system.
(I won't have a choice as I only have DP1.2 on my GPU).

It does. Litereally no SDE.

I am being tilted to the convinced side now, a question for the backers now please:

the 8k version is currently at $499, but it says :

Tip: "If you already have a Stem VR or HTC Vive base station and controllers, get this reward. Supports single base station for 360-degree positional tracking"

I have the CV1 with 2 sensors and touch controllers, so what else would i need to use this 8k headset? Or am i looking at the 8K reward at $699? Not interested in the 5K, why 5k when you can have 8K, i mean 8 is a bigger number than 5, so it must be better??? ;) ;)

You would need at least one HTC vive base station to play a seating experience game that doesn't need the controllers like ED and Project cars, if you want to do the whole room scale thing, then at least 2 sensors will be needed and the Vive controllers.

None of your CV1 stuff will work. I have a CV1 too and will sell it on Ebay if the Pimax works out well.

The 5k is for those with smaller pockets and can live with the SDE I assume.

Thanks Max, Ok need to look at what these Vive Base Stations cost and compare it to the $699 reward.

Can't rep you again so soon, i need to spread some more Wasp0 Love ;)

Apparantly if you just add 75.00 more to the 499.00 you get a pimax base station. Just need to remind them to send you the base station when they contact you. This is what I have done.

Jan 2016 I pushed the button on CV1. It was $800 without Touch and just 1 sensor, it was a commercial release. The Pimax 8K is $800 for the full pkg so this would seem a similar leap of faith to what we hoped back then would be a good purchase. For new users it may be the new entry point. For Vive owners it may be their 2nd hmd as the cost of just a headset would make it less expensive. For Rift owners the question of buying a whole new kit gets harder. As one of the latter, I will be waiting to see what 2018 brings.
As someone who only plays in VR, I have no doubt that if the Pimax 8K becomes the must have hmd next year well then that shall be as they say, that.

I just watched this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wvl_15UNFYU
Anyone actually tried ED with one of these yet ?
Amazon seems to have these now: Price:£360 - which is half the price of the HTC Vive

So they also do a "B" version of the headset that is lower resolution, but increases refresh rate, and uses a custom OLED display instead of the LED one - I somehow ended up with one of these and play ED with it - great headset - if you can get it, but I don't believe it's available on the consumer market outside of Asia.
