Pirate players are ok but you get hunted

I am curious as to if a player who is a pirate will normally show as wanted, myself being more of a trader who likes a bit of pew pew in the combat zones , because bounty hunting is not that profitable and combat zones you can rack up more kills but it sounds like fun hunting real pirates not npc.. But I do not want to negatively effect my rep in any way, I think I would like the challenge of watching for players getting pirated and then coming to the rescue..

Why are people moaning about pirating? I've had pirates interdict me and before they have finished there sentence about them scanning me and dropping cargo I have there shields down and there fleeing!

I've also been a pirate and killed many players. People should stop moaning and learn to play the game more successfully.

All I hear is nerf this and nerf that blah blah blah and tbh I'm sick and tired of hearing it.
Braben please stick to your vision and ignore these whiners.
Only thing I would change is the penalty for killing someone as a pirate in a civilised system should be higher than 6k. More like 12k. People would think twice.

100% agree. Play how you want. Don't cheat. And don't get angry... it's only a game.

Too many traders poodle about after an interdiction and expect a conversation with a pirate rather than flying the hell away as fast as possible. Submit. Boost. Boost again. Jump = Problem solved.

even that is considered cheating by some people ;)

oh please... just stop it...
why are you ok when an NPC kills you but you are not ok when another CMDR kills you?
And I will ask: Why do some feel the need to "kill" Cmdr's when their are plenty of NPC's in the game?

I have never killed a human player, so I will guess that the explosion is the same for either type.

Why do people say bounty hunting isn't profitable? Yes, trading makes millions per hour, but to me, that isn't fun. And in the time since this game was released, I've only met 1 other human, and he was parked near my landing pad. So no human kills yet.

Will I kill another player - too right I will, but they'll have to be wanted, or attack me first. I'm not a pirate, but you attack me, you'll die. That or I'll bug out pdq.

Well let me first state that despite my name... i never attacked a human player in 'Elite' (i know it is hard to believe :))

The reason why people try to beat other people in a game is the same reason why multiplayer-gaming was invented...
(and the same reason people used to play board-games with each-other)

All of the sudden there was the internet and people saw the endless possibilities...
Instead of fighting the same stupid AI they could have new challenges... variety...
We have now shooters / rpg's / racing games where people 'game' against people to win.

In 'Elite' a player reaction when getting attacked or when attacking is for some more enjoyable because every encounter is different.

Why is it so hard to understand that some just like a bit of 'non-repetitive action'?
Why is it so hard to understand that everybody human soul on this planet likes to say sometimes: I WON.... YOU LOOSE ?

It just is human nature.. we (as in human species) like competing and we like winning.
Denying this is denying human nature.

Some traders seem to forget this sometimes ... and they label everyone that kills them a 'psychopath' , 'murderer', 'griefer' etc...
Some people just kill for enjoyment... just to say 'I WON'
Some people don't kill to 'grief' ... they play a game just to say i'm good at something: 'I WON'

...and you have to admit it just feels good to say this once in a while.

But why does it feel good to say 'I WON'?

Because our brain is wired this way. Without our urge to display our strength our species would be extinct by now: survival of the fittest (cfr. Darwin)
We just like to show of our strength in all kind of ways.
Some do it by showing their muscles... others do it by displaying their welth... and other people do it by playing games and trying to win.

If your emotions get so screwed up you can't take a 'loss' in a 'game' it is not the responsibility of the other players change their behaviour.
It is 'you' (as in: anyone who feels offended) who has to change your playstyle and make sure your 'emotions' are kept under 'control'

We can all ask for better balance / more options etc... but for the time being we have to take the game as it is.
The amount of hatred i see displayed in these forums against these so called 'griefers' / 'pirates' / 'murderers' is just uncalled and prooves that some people can't make a difference between a game and reality.

People say that killing another CMDR for no reason is the lowest of the lowest...
Well i say there is at least 1 thing that is worst than this:

Hating people who 'kill' for fun is the lowest of the lowest and yet many people fail to see this.

If the devs are against 'pointless' murdering then it is their responsibility to change the ruleset.
We as players 'act' in a 'stage' set by the devs and within this 'stage' we will exhibit our human nature according to the 'rules'.

My point: Don't blame the players but ask FD to change the game if this is not what you like.

With the small difference that I spend more time trading than bounty hunting that's how I play too (because I do get satisfaction about finding a decent trade route and exploiting the heck out of it before anyone else finds out about it) I've encountered quite a few human players, none that were wanted when on a hunting trip though. They've all been folks that jumped me when I was trading, about a 50:50 split between "real" pirates and the other kind. I've only had one person act the real pirate and then decide to doublecross and attack me after I dumped the cargo negotiated for. I'm very pleased to report that I won that one and what I got back via the KWS paid for my lost cargo, which had despawned by the time the fight was over.

In a contest with willing participants, I agree with your points.

And they would be completely valid if both participants were both (willingly) looking to outdo and prove their superiority over each other. When player "A" tries to do this and Player "B" decides to run, hasn't Player "A" accomplished this? Doesn't chasing someone who does not want to fight and beating them to a pulp display something else?

I will pose another question: If a player wants to establish their "superiority" over others in this game, Why not pick on a Anaconda? Or "A" rated Python?

The way I see it, anyone can take a cobra or viper and blow up a hauler.

And I don't hate or blame the players that do this. Nor do I blame the developers. The game is what the game is. Their are steps that can be taken to avoid unwanted encounters. Either take them or (possibly) take your lumps.

BUT,,,,,,,,,,,,

Just because I don't hate the player who wantonly destroys other ships simply because they can, I don't have to like them either.

Add to Riktar that the game is set against Murderers as Killing a Clean commander does two things:

1) Adds these new Legacy fines (Fines that do not die with you. If someone claims your bounty, you still have to pay it out of your own pot. Hence they are not exploitable. If you get your friend to kill you and claim your bounty it only comes out of your pot anyway.)

2) Adds absolutely nothing to your experience points, so no rank progression. Does not add anything to your faction. In fact, the thing that is lost is any meaningful interaction between you and the next human being.

Adding the internet to this game has made this a sort of social network. People go in open to meet other commanders. They actually like talking to other people. That's why these lumbering T9's are in open when all you have to be is mildly competent and tooled up to pop him and go "Lulz." The idea that somehow gunning down a T9 is somehow meaningful to anyone other than the person who shouts "I won!" is laughable. In fact, it's laughable to think that same person really gets anything out of the encounter than the satisfaction that he has inconvenienced somebody else. And someone like that could easily be described as a sociopath and it would not be far wrong. This is a social game.

Now, as Riktar suggests, if you go up against another player who is also tooled to the hilt, more competent than you, at least in rank, and you have a lesser ship, and you beat him... Then I could understand the "I won!" philosophy. Anything less than this is shallow.
