Pirates have a lot of new tools - are there going to be harsher consequences?

Uhm well defensively used mines come to mind, and faster fsd drive and such perhaps...
One is too heavy to be viable for traders currently and the other is a necessity for traders already.

I know people ignore it. But I like it.

Doesn't one of the Engineers require CQC rank? I imagine that'll boost CQC. Whether that's a good thing...
ugh... I assume I'll grind CQC for a while then

how many people are trading in open? Probably few. When you give people an option to trade in solo or private and have zero chance of being robbed/killed of course they will take it.

Don't all the engineers offer something that no other engineer can offer?

The digital RNG Magic 8 ball says...

...and I tend to agree.

As a person who missed the stream and is currently at work, can someone either post a link to the stream or give me a detailed breakdown? I've gathered quite a bit from glancing through the thread, but not enough to say that I understand what FD intends to put in the game.

As a legitimate pirate myself, this conversation intrigues me.

Here you go... Oh, and it starts around 3 minutes in.

I relly doubt the numbers are so low regarding traders.
Shame you seldom hear about tales of traders enjoying piracy encounters,
the vocal majority seems to be ticked off the instant another player even dares thinking
of interdicting them.

As long as we have no in game heat map or the ability to construct our own net
of traffic data buoys logging the ships and where they jump to/dock we have a hard time
as pirates finding traders in open, that stray from cg systems.

Sorry if I missed it, but will NPC's have these as well?

I sure hope 'throttle 0 - Boost - boost - FSD jump' will still work against agro NPC's...

Nothing quite as demoralizing as loosing months of exploration data to an agro NPC....

Yes, the NPC's will have them, plus their AI is getting improved to make them even more deadly. Explorers are getting...nothing, honestly. Nothing that we've heard of yet anyway. Maybe an FSD recipe, we don't know yet, but certainly no defensive measures to counter balance these improved weapons and AI. There won't be any shield recipes in 2.1 as stated by the devs, just weapons.

I honestly don't believe the devs have thought much about the non combat players, and if they have, they haven't shown it yet.

They've shown us enough Engineers module/crafting teasers that it's starting to get a little worrying that we haven't seen anything except combat fluff.

I hope/assume that there are Engineers that touch all modules, and the teasers are just combat-oriented because everyone understands that. There's no point worrying right now when we're only a few days from knowing, but hopefully there isn't a giant WhiskyTangoFoxtrot?! coming down the pipeline with crafting options limited to mostly just fighty parts...

I recall hearing them say that there will be FSD mods as well as definitely having heard that there will be thruster mods for higher speed. The latter one probably not helping most explorers. Just be ready to high-wake out as normal. The AI are also supposed to scale better in that Elite NPCs will be significantly more difficult, but the lower ones shouldn't be too difficult. We'll see though.

Honestly, explorers have had it very easy in the game so far. Basically, there's been no risk to explorers unless they make a significant mistake. This is coming from someone who's primary play style in the game is exploration. I understand some people don't care for combat though.

Yeah, my impression is that more explorers than not do like the idea of exploring becoming more dangerous - just so long as new dangers come in the form of hazards that can be conquered or evaded via skill (eg like the risks of trying to land on a high-G planet), ie any new danger doesn't come in the form of dumb RNG dangers that just happen randomly for the sake of happening.

Thanks!
Good to know.
