That's not what I meant. Elite has always been a game with piracy in it. However I am free to hate them with the same passion that I hate daytime TV.

Fair enough - just so long as hating them while being glad they exist to keep life interesting... which is more than I can say for daytime TV ;)

Ha that's pretty tame compared to some of the ones I put up with. Just wait until you start pirating bigger ships, with the good cargo. That's when you hear language that will make a sailor cry.

If people didn't get so attached to their imaginary space bux, and their imaginary space car, it would be more fun for everyone.

If cargo would be split some 10% spilling into space and the rest reappearing with the commanders new ship it would be more fun for everyone.

Only if you paid cargo insurance - which should totally be a thing (it's even in the UI, just unused).

Regardless of how much you, or anybody else, hates pirates it doesn't justify or excuse the use of that language in a game. Some people really do need to get a grip though.

Op.. we used to save the hate mail we received as pirates in EVE. It was kind of a 'drunk on a Friday night' communal activity to read them out on vent. ;)

I'm not seeing the contradiction.

The case in point is highlighted by the vulgar emotional language used by the victim. Language that's not allowed as this is a family friendly forum/game studio. Any argument on the ethics of piracy boils down to these brass tacks.

I'd like to believe that you are not being willfully obtuse, and like most here were simply unaware of this fundamental ethical dichotomy.

Piracy warrants it, nay.. it demands it. Get over your self righteous indignation at emotional expression and acknowledge who was actually injured here.

If you're going to vent at a pirate (and by all means, do so!) It should be done in a way that someone lets them know it's with a nudge and a wink, I say ;)

Might keep them from considering blowing you up for being an a-hole ;)

Ok, cargo insurance if that's the way you want to implement it. It would create a richer more engaging game environment for all.

I have to agree - all that time spent swearing could have been better spent in netsh :D

That's funny because we can just use Solo mode / Why netsh when you could just combat log?

Oh, I'm sure SOME people will find something to complain about... they always do ;)

Wonderful argument, I like the way nothing ever gets better and it useless to make suggestions for improvement. Hurrah!

The only person expressing self righteous indignation is you. You are wrong. The rules under which you play this game, rules that you agreed to, expressly forbid the use of such language. Perhaps you, and certain others, should learn to express your emotions without resorting to abusive and derogatory profanity. Especially in an environment which we like to call 'a game'. Even more especially in a game which is rated to allow children to play. Grow up.

Why netsh when you could just combat log?

Because exploiting is against the rules. A little like losing your rag and swearing at people.

What? I'm not against it at all. I'm just recognizing the sad common trend on the forums here of how people react to any (and I mean ANY) kind of change. It's not reflective of my opinion on the matter.

Pirates are part of a chain:

Without pirates there'd be no bounty hunters.
With both gone all there is to do is explore and trade, soon all interesting exploration targets are explored up and all good trade routes come crashing down.

They are necessary, unlike the swearing and exploiting :p

Getting away from pirates is currently too easy. Submit to interdictions, boost away asap deploying chaff/HSL and in 15 seconds your FSD is up again to run into SC.
If they repeatedly interdict you randomly drop out of SC shortly after entering and hope they pick a different target. - Turns into a game of cat and mouse that's quite fun on either end.

Edit: In my opinion!

You can also submit and jump to another system which negates mass lock. People rage about it because, generally, they know that they messed up and this is what makes them angry. You'll notice that very few pirates become the victims of piracy when they're moonlighting as traders ;)

I can't imagine players having a great love for thieves in game. If someone jacked a boot load of shopping from your car I doubt onlookers would be pointing out that *your* foul language was a problem! "The man got punched in the nose and had his groceries nicked, but did you *hear* what he shouted at the robber??!".

Get them sticks out of your arses, fellas. OP deserves all that hate and more.

I find the number of people unable to distinguish between reality and a game pretty disturbing. Would you punch somebody who beat you at chess, or in a tennis match? After all, they've ruined your fun and wasted your time and effort, right?

it's. a. game. Now you don't have to like losing, but take it with some damn grace and dignity. Furthermore, learn to separate games from reality and leave the abusive attitudes out of it. Pretty simple. The ones with 'sticks in their arses' are the ones getting all uptight about losing virtual credits in a game about future spaceships. If it was your kid crying because they lost a game you;d tell them to htfu. Right?

Except it's a video game where crime is encouraged by the creators of it. It's like being mad at someone for bankrupting you in monopoly. It's all part of the game. You're not losing real money or in danger of getting hurt.

Are you being ironic by saturating a post effectively complaining about vulgar language with profanity?

I should clarify that I don't personally care about profanity, but I thought this was worth pointing out.
