One thing is unclear to me about those kill pirate missions: Is this only possble in supercruise while interdicting them? Or do we have to fly to a spot in 'normal' space and look for them there??

with kill pirate missions just pick up a couple of tonnes of gold and head for the nav-point or even better if there is a RES point in the system then go there and scan all ship if wanted, kill them and check your mission log if it was a pirat your counter will show you if not you'll just get a bounty which you can collect on next time you visit a station in the system...

Hint if you look at "subsystems" at a wanted target and it shows a "Cargo scanner" it almost sertenly a pirate... ;-)

You can only find them in USS while supercruising, no need to interdict.
Reset your throttle and just wait for a USS to pop up, enter it and look for the target.

If it's not there, enter SC and repeat.

I found that if I fly THROUGH the Nav point in supercruise, not merely hangout somewhere near the Nav point, that the USS spawns within a second or two of flying through it. With this method, I never have to wait for a USS. I then check out the USS and if it isn't the one I want, then I fly through the Nav point, again. Rinse, repeat until you get the USS you want. The system will cycle through some sequence of wedding barge, transport, pirate, canisters, etc.
