Hello hello! Update for you: you can place down an almost 80 square meter habitat in the space, so aim for just smaller than that to be safe!

It does not, but builds that in some way suit or complement the area are in with a better shot given it's to complete a themed area of the zoo!

Are their any habitat species with requirements that low (before even considering the reduction due to hitbox interaction with items and barriers)?

This space generally isn't for a habitat, it's for a decorative scenery piece or a facility such as a food stall area!
