Planet Builders DLC : Customize planets with new construction

What would you think of a Planet Builders DLC where players can customize planets with buildings, living plants (trees, grass...etc.) inside force field sphere or glass, mining extraction site...etc.

I know from the leaks you will be able to build your own player base on planets... But wouldn't it be wonderful if players could also customize the whole bubble planets too with a lot of differents kind of construction ? You could be able to produce your own goods (agricultural goods, metals / minerals...) or host a luxurious hostel ?!

It would make the whole bubble alive and each system really unique !
In the mean time it could be a game to found hidden player base station in the lost space... and stole their stuff.

What do you think about that ? What kind of construction, terraforming...etc. would you like to see in that possible DLC ?

The destructible kind. Wars could be waged, settlements defended etc etc. Otherwise I would find the idea of base building pretty dull and wouldn't pay for it if it was a seperate thing.

Coming to a game near you in multiple instances.

It would be pretty and all, but it seems like an awful lot of dev work and data for not much content. Personally, I'd rather see small things that have a tangible purpose.

Doesn't seem to mesh well with the type of game this is to me with us playing as being Commanders in the Pilots Federation. Just get Space Engineers or something.

Retractable tank treads on my Vulture would be better received by me. :)

YMMV

It would be a mess of half finished projects amidst a sea of abominations spawned by ineptitude and trollery. Every MMO I've seen so far that allows free form base building shared in a world always resulted in a visual representation of white noise. The great achievements you see in blogs and news pieces are lone exceptions among the mass of debris and rubble. And if they're destructible, you will have bands of people dedicating their game time to destroying anything great that was created.

Base building in Elite should exhaust itself with private rooms in your ships and fleet carriers, in my opinion.

Yeah, pretty much my take on it as well. As an aside, I still host and run Minecraft servers for family and friends.

Frontier following in the footsteps of other popular MMO type silliness with Elite would be more than a bit of a disappointment to me when it has such great potential otherwise.

Minecraft in space? Sounds like a great concept and it could work well with the underlying framework of Elite (not from a development but design perspective).
I am pretty sure that Frontier will not go into that direction though, at least not enough to make it worthwhile. What you are describing needs 100% player freedom and that would turn Elite into a completely different game. Not necessarily a bad game, just different. I expect that base building and player interaction will be very limited, if it comes at all.
While I do think it would be a great game I am happy that it's very unlikely because it's not the direction I'd like to see the game going. That said, my vision for the game is just as unlikely as yours.
I want more interaction within the game world and our actions to be reflected in it. I'd like to see the world change dynamically based on the BGS, which also includes changing planets (terraforming), new bases, outposts and cities but not because of individual players but because of processes that happen automatically once certain thresholds are met. For example, if someone finds a very valuable mining hotspot in a ring (or on a planetary surface), enough players are making use of it and the right faction makes a lot of profit from it a station inside the ring could be built automatically (including automated CGs and missions to gather resources). If player support isn't big enough the project could fail and put the faction into a miserable situation. Or they succeed and gain a lot of influence. I think that fits to the game way better than being a random guy who decided there should be his personal asteroid station after he grinded for billions of credits. That's just one example but I think it should give you a good idea about the different concepts of direct and indirect player agency.
That and cockpit cats of course.

Thanks, I haven't been active much lately due to real life stuff. Also, I'm waiting for the next big update which is coming in late 2020.
Things have been slow without your keen eye to "notice new stuff." FD instead have had to resort to faking leaks to keep our interest alive :D

They have experience with Planet Coaster ... some wonderful coasters are/were constructed by players.
Yeah, but that's not an open world free-form multiplayer space game though.

Implemented here, we could look forward to such things as the first majestic phallus palace being erected within minutes or hours of launch and promptly being tea-bagged, one way or another.

It's rumored that we will get space legs with base building in 2020.

So, space legs, base building, space mailbox for your mail, space tool kit including sonic screwdriver (both flat head and Philips head), space pants hanging down over your rear so we'll have space butt cracks showing, space coasters with space ice cream parlors, space parking lots with space valet parking (THAT is going to cost you an arm and a space leg).
