xSHADOWx is right. The steam workshop is a joke. It doesn't filter blueprints well and it glorifies only a handful. There is no reason to make it worse by having a contest to add more useless content. Why does Frontier find it so important to break the 100,000 contributions if half of it is going to be junk? Now we have people going out of their way to add more junk to the workshop as Luuknoord, the very first poster acknowledges :

What constitutes "really awful?" What if my 10 year old wants to share his fab toilet? Is he dq'd because he doesn't have the talent of some adult? This is a bad idea for a contest and I think its going to cause resentment.

I should have rephrased my 'really awful' comment; I meant more like really offensive and inappropriate items that might be randomly selected would of course not qualify.

I personally think the Workshop is an incredible way to show off people's creativity and thought process when playing the game. We want to celebrate that creativity; at the same time we can't monitor the quality of the content that goes out there - I understand that for people like yourself who are great at creating things and would like to see such quality across the board find it then frustrating to see 'lesser items' in there. But hey, those people might in turn be super proud of their work; who are we to judge? (Tune in to our livestream later to see two people creating things that they're proud of but nobody else will think the same [big grin][wink])

The community works together in such a way where it upvotes and rewards blueprints that are awesome and pleasing to the eye, submit items that they're proud of directly to me, and you can also filter the Workshop to your needs (by using tags, searching for specific items, or going into the 'Most popular' tab).

Quality over Quantity should be what we want to work towards... not just a large number.

Quality over quantity..

We simply want to celebrate a big milestone that's exciting to us and involve all of our wonderful community. [heart]

This is why I avoided the workshop even in the last Alpha/Beta time because of the way content was going then. Nothing changed unless Frontier employee someone to really look after the workshop content properly tbh.

Now if Frontier just wanted to do a contest to see who could make the best workshop item that's a different monster.

Much better idea for a contest! If there was a way it could be legitimately voted on by the community, I like this contest idea!

They did a contest like that during alpha, coastercad won with a huuuuugely detailed park

I think this contest was meant for those who are not super creators

But hey, those people might in turn be super proud of their work; who are we to judge?

But also it gives people reason to toss any structure up on the workshop with +50 pieces, because talent or not its still entered in the contest to win some pretty cool stuff, so there will be many people doing just that competing with my kids toilet who is proud of his building.. but who are we to judge?

I will be one of those people upload 50pieces of crap for the contest [wink] but I'll probably delete my crappy creations after the contest ends.

Even though this contest encourages low quality content, I don't think its that big of a deal. Its only for a week and not everybody will enter. I don't download workshop blueprints much anyway, I have all the basic ones I want for shops, but I don't like using other peoples creations in my parks. I just watch videos of peoples creations like from Channel5's youtube channel, since my computer cant handle running larger parks anyway.

The "master builds" will still be highlighted more than the lesser quality content

why make a contest like this then? why not submit an entry into a contest on a daily basis via your steam account? why bog the workshop down with useless junk?

Guys, it's a prize draw. Not a competition. The same kind you can enter by completing a survey or even just entering your email address in some cases. What's different about this one? I know I have no talent... You don't need to put restrictions on me for it. [sad]

I think it's a great way to get people creative who think of themselves as less or not talented. Even though the Buildings may not be as good as Silvarrets, SPRidleys, DeLadySigner or PC4Toms stuff, but they have fun creating it and the Chance of winning.

Why do some people always try to twist words and shed things in a negtative Light?

yeah but its a prize draw that is bogging down the workshop that is already entrenched with a lot of useless stuff. Like you said.. a survey or and email address.. or as I said. use your Steam acct. to verify you're a Planet Coaster Player but we shouldn't be rewarded for adding pointless junk to the workshop

That's very subjective. What if I think your creations are pointless junk?

I think it would be great if frontier were to share pics/workshop links of the contest winners so we can see what items actually won. It would be great if all winners blueprints were lined up in a row for us all to see how the winners blueprints turned out

Nice idea!! Reaching 100.000 items will be a huge milestone and another display of how great this game is :D

I have a few buildings that are ready to be shared but never took the time to take proper pictures and stuff but guess is a good reason to finally upload those buildings :D

We will continue to share and celebrate awesome community creations like we always on FB Live, social media, and the livestreams.
As per my original post, we will also announce the winners on the forums.

And yes, livestream tonight 7PM GMT. See you there [heart]

Wow! Yes, we're so excited about this amazing milestone!

Looking forward to your items and now you can even win something cool by uploading them (also I'm sure they're great, be confident in your super building skills [heart])

I honestly don't care what you think and don't usually post on the workshop because 1. somebody is just going to steal it. or 2. I don't want to share my stuff because I think its junk.. so your point is moot with me.. but be honest here.. do you think that most the creations on the workshop are masterful works of art? How many things are you actually subscribed to? are you subscribing to toilets at a breakneck pace gregorburns?

don't usually post on the workshop because somebody is just going to steal it.

This can happen, but I don't think its happening all that often. Steam does allow users to file a complaint with stolen/copied blueprints and if it is infact a stolen/copied upload, steam will remove the stolen content for you.

do you think that most the creations on the workshop are masterful works of art?
I already wrote this once a few posts up but I'll repeat it again.

I never download the most amazing creations from the workshop simply because my computer can't handle them. I do however enjoy watching peoples creations very much from youtube where frame rate is not an issue. As for using blueprints from the workshop, I mainly just have a few basic shop and scenery blueprints as I prefer using my own creations in my parks.

So for those reasons, I don't see any reason to be hating on the workshop. Is it perfectly flawless? Of course not, but it certainly has helped grow the community creations and exposure via youtube videos far beyond what we had in RCT3, and to me thats a huge + for PC

Why does almost every post on this forum turn into some big disagreement with the "positive" posts always trying to belittle others because they don't think/believe in the same way.

Let people have their own ideas!

If you don't agree, don't use negativity & arguments to make your point.

( ok, I'm done now [happy] )
