Although I am not a fan of the current implementation of the aging system, I do offer a few suggestions that should be easy to implement and could possibly make the aging aspect more enjoyable.
1 - Slow down the aging process maybe another 25%. It happens way too fast.
2 - Lessen the effect of aging, so that a ride can still maintain some level of profitability.
3 - Utilize the Marketing aspect of the management console to increase the Prestige of a ride, by advertising the ride or offering ride coupons to gain more interest. This will allow players to have some management over a rides popularity without the need to completely destroy and rebuild.
I agree the timing of aging is way off. A park that is only a few months old should not have rides that people see as aging, and after a few years they're so old people won't ride them. But then it takes 25 years to be classic? WHAT! It's just crazy.
I get that new is supposed to be a boost to people wanting to ride the ride, but once it's aging it begins a decline. Perhaps they need another term here before aging. Terms that describe the ride as brand new (just a few months) and newer (less than a year). Then perhaps aging should be the neutral state (having no positive or negative effects). This effect should last for years (at least 5) so that in a typical scenario it doesn't effect the game play, but in long challenge games it could add a twist. A ride is not old after just a few years. And refurbishing a ride should include it's own term, such as recently refurbished that gives a boost for a while. If the ride was considered old it should get a temporary popularity boost and then get to spend a few years at aging again before being seen as old. Otherwise what is the point of the refurbishing button?
In real parks people still call something that been around for a few years new if it's new to them. That was another thought I had. If the peep has never been to the park why would they care if the ride is new or old? If you've never been to Disneyland, then you want to ride everything because it's all new to you. So I think the aging should take into account whether the peep is visiting for the first time or not. And it's ridiculous that a ride cannot make enough money to justify having it open. So there needs to be some kind of balance between ride operating costs and what can be charged to ride a ride, along with how long it takes to load and complete a cycle.
I also agree that adding advertising/coupons to rides would be a nice touch. I miss that from RCT. I really liked advertising for a ride to get people to go there. I enjoy this game, but it was a struggle to complete those last two challenges because of this reputation thing. And I don't understand why I can't do much to improve the star rating of a ride. I understand that a cool coaster is way better than a teacup ride, but it seems there should be something I can do to improve the star rating. Perhaps adding characters, scenery, and ride sequences could improve the star level of a ride.
