Planet ground textures look like asp

The card handles tessellation. And it can be disabled so people with lower rigs can still run. See the Heaven benchmark.

For those that are running VR, check your overclocks. You may think your overclock is stable, but it really isn't. I had my water cooled 1080 ti overclocked to 2088. Sure, it ran fine. And by that I mean that it didn't crash. I even had it up to 2101 at one point. But when in VR I had tracking issues. The view would jigger, figger, and not look good. The display would lag behind.

I don't know what prompted me, but I decided to reduce my overclock to 2037 and lo! All of the problems I had with VR were resolved! As a disclosure, I'm also running an FX8350 @4.5ghz with 2133 memory (MSI sucks for overclocking). That might actually be limiting my overclock. But it's worth a check for anyone overclocking.

Hardly surprising when they're right, lol.

You people who think it's the lower PCs that are holdin us back and not the consoles are high, I'm sorry.

As the poster above me points out though, that's not why we don't have tesselation in ED, but it IS why we don't have it at 2k and 4k resolutions at 144fps.

Ok then

Amadeus is right, the 1080 in my laptop and the 1080ti in my desktop both suffer from thermal issues, if they get hot, they throttle back with similar lack of finesse as that with which FDev swing the nerf hammer. SO - to keep your frame rates up its more important to keep your temps down than your clock rates up.

I agree, we have been console bound for some time now.

As a console player myself, all I have to say is

CPUs also have the same safety feature - if they overheat, your computer will probably shut down completely. Would you rather that this protection wasn't in place so you could simply fry your expensive kit? :D There's only so much finesse that can be implemented at the hardware level...

Consoles are not holding back tessalation. The example pic of ghost recon wildlands... playstation. In fact xbox one x smokes the "average" player's pc capabilities.

Anyone running in Native 4k is using the game's UHD texture pack. It is most definitely on par with anything in any other current game. Those who are claiming otherwise, need to up their game and get beyond sub-4k resolutions.

FYI: Native 4k is 3840x2160. You will need an overclocked 1080ti and a decent i7 or AMD equivilant CPU to get a locked 60fps with Ultra/High settings however.

144fps? lol! In your dreams!

60fps looks horrible though. Or at least it does on a decent 144+hz screen.

Can't understand anyone who spends that much money on the latest PC gear and then hamstrings it by running at 60fps.

One could say those people need to 'up their game and get beyond 60fps'.

I'm just shaking my head, after four years of trying to drag FDev to understand, and getting constantly beaten by the fanboi bats, that's as much enthusiasm as I can muster now.

Tessallation won't happen - at least not in any way that's worth a damn, because as you've rightly pointed out this game is being throttled by the consoles lack of power, the game will only proceed graphically acording to Sony and Microsofts whims.

*cue fanbois who say that just isnt true, even when it evidently is - that PS4 picture looks like the graphical bumpmaps of 10 years ago

What makes you think PS4 dosnt support tesselation? if anything, it is the PC min spec that holds it back, not consoles.

The lowest common denominator would be the PC minimum requirements, not consoles.

Nonono, its stupid consoles, and evil corporations, and fanbois and white knights!

Considering this topic specifically is about tesselation, clearly you must simply admit that blaming consoles is factually wrong in this topic. Popular, but wrong.

2nd edit - I've just made a coffee and had a rather interesting thought.... I wonder, if such a deal had been struck with MCsoft to downgrade the quality such as was seen before the game went live for xbone, the beigification - but was limited to say two years - by then most xbone sales would have happened, at least the full price ones, MCsoft would have made it's money on the deal, so after two years FDev was "released" from those graphical restrictions, and.... voila the beigification gets "fixed". (sometime in q4) which would make the timing quite... coincedentally remarkable.

I think you should drink less coffee... :p

I think we can all agree it looks a lot better than it did. I think the addition of more jagged rocks and more depth of terrain would do wonders. I hope they don't put so many graphical settings to cater for all like Crysis or farcry because you end up spending half the time trying to tweak the settings to find a sweet spot, only to find that the game runs really bad in another area and it stars over again.

You will have to actually upgrade your system to see what 4k ED looks like. Obviously, your current system isn't up to the task, otherwise you would not have posted what you posted. UHD at 60fps blows sub 4k resolutions in the weeds and then some at any fps. I can run at all your sub 4k resolutions, and I can see what you are missing.

(FYI: The human eye can not discern the difference between 60fps and anything higher. FACT! - Any perceived difference is in your mind)

Time to upgrade dude. Your antiquated system is making you look out of touch with the latest and greatest ED has to offer. ;)

60fps with UHD textures looks awesome and runs like butter with top of the line hardware.

Again... Upgrade your old rig to gain some much needed crediblity!

Your e-peen is showing, you might want to put it away. It's ugly.

Is now the time to start the discussion of how many FPS the eye/brain can actually perceive? ;)

Oops... ninja'd. Ah well. Though it isn't fact that the eye/brain can only perceive 60FPS, as the eye and brain do not see in frames...

Now I know you're just trolling. :D

60fps according to our stuck-at-console-refresh-rates-peasant over here.

Those of us who've already gotten gud moved on from the 60fps era a long long time ago.

And this is about the time when the mods jump in..... (Assuming they aren't taking Sunday off.)

ive got a 1440p freesync monitor and can say that with freesync enabled its difficult to tell the difference between 50 frames per second and 144 frames per second.

xboxers by the way are about to get access to Freesync, which will turn many pc gamers who dont have freesync access, due to the brand of graphics card they have into the gaming "peasants" ;)
