Horizons planet side compass ?

No compass but there is a coordinate system. Which personally I think is more useful than a compass. If you're asking for both then I guess I have nothing to say.

Wonder if FD's starforge actually has some parameters about magnetosphere and magnetism in general. Maybe bodies in ED have no such thing even in dry numbers, so creating compasses randomly choosing 'north' or 'up' depending on planet's location would be just cheating :)

There is a compass (heading at top of HUD)
FD introduced a bug a few updates ago making the heading incorrect.
North track reduces latitude and East track reduces longitude. It seems low priority to put back to how it was.

Your also have a sort of compass at the top of the screen anyway giving you your facing in degrees.

Only if you're in your SRV.

Flying to specific coordinates isn't that lovely. So some information about the current cooridnates (e.g North/South, West/East rather than + and - ) would be helpfull and a
brief direction where the meridians are on the planet map (maybe also point your current position if feasable) so you can roughly plan your way to destination.

Best Regards,
Miklos

The compass appears in your ship as soon as you drop out of supercruise, so drop out, take your bearings and then back into supercruise to go to your approximate destination. Repeat until you're at the exact location.

Axial north is used over magnetic north for coordinates and grid system.

Thanks, nice to know :)
However, it brings me back to my question - do you have magnetic field of stellar and planetary bodies as a parameter in starforge? Really offtopic now, just very curious.

It would be nice to have the compass in Orbital Cruise.
Just sayin'

People been whining for that for a while.. me included.

ALSO add a compass in supercruise that allows us to to tell Z+ or Z- the galactic plane, the NSEW grid coords so we can extrapolate which star we are looking at.

I've seen stars and tried to line them up in the galaxy map and you just can't. You can't orient yourself to pick the star and then try and find it in the galaxy map.

I asked David B in a live chat before and he was asked the question but he didn't undertstand it nor answer it - we wanted the ability to point to a star from supercruise and select it and have it show up in the galaxy map.

Yes. There have been a number of bug reports. This is one of them: [ED64 - 2.1 Beta 3] Planetary compass is now *really* reversed

I was pondering SC navigation. Should be possible. [smile]
