Planet Work: New tactic failed

Tried a new tactic today to see what the results would be - it fails (so dont try it!)
.
I was close to the planet and was scanned - I was just starting a landing for a EVA in my SRV so I decided to continue on the theory that all I would lose was my SRV
.
Started to be attacked. so a quick egress and onto the planet and dismissed my ship. Time to test the theory
.
Imagine my horror as I watched the NPC continue to attack my ship and it gets destroyed in the sky high above me, horror is the right word you suddenly feel like Mark Watney and start looking for potatoes, the rest of the recipe I have plenty of after seeing the ship detroyed
.
Thankfully it didn't last long - the attacking ship have destroyed the mothership then came gunning for me
.
So once learned twice shy, just because you dismiss your ship, doesn't make it safe

Surly a tough lesson, but one most appreciated to be learned form your mishap, by this Commander. Good luck out there.

I liked it the whole thing was very Logical and realistic. In hindsight I especially appreciated that the npc went after my ship first and then came back for me!

Planetary work used to be easy (very easy in fact) and a way to make money early in the game, usually cobra was the max for a scavenger

Now the canisters are good with around 5-10k average per canister and about 7 canister per POI its now a career path hence my "need" to find the best way to live on the surface

He grew them in poop!

Ouch, this makes me realize that I got extremely lucky tonight! I'm pledged to LYR, went to Tote and kept getting attacked left and right by Hudson's goons. I did as you did OP, was near a planet when I got scanned and decided I'd try to land and dismiss my ship before the NPC could tag me... the lucky part was, "Matchmaking" disconnect right as I deployed my SRV.... because now I realize I was |---------------this---------------| close to losing my ship!

Good to know, I was wondering myself what would happen. Generally it's a bit more exciting now on planet surfaces, when I feel like to do some SRV stunts (I drive like an a**le, sometimes I just fly more with that thingy than actually driving it, its really fun at times) and every time I see the shadow of another ship slowly gliding across the sky I feel a nice prickle.

Oh, and Mark Watney is the greatest hero of all time (read the book if you haven't yet!), some planet or station should be named after him in ED.

I get nothing done on planet surfaces. I head off to complete a task, and end up joyriding. That buggy is a crazy fun experience. I get completely distracted. I called my wife over too see once, once! She didn;t get what was all that giggling going on. She doesn't take me for a giggler.

But if it gets away it will be repaired. Worked for me at least when I recalled my ship near an engineer's base. The base started shooting since it thought I was blocking a landing pad (which wasn't the case). So I dismissed the ship, it got away with 37% hull and once I recalled it, it came back with 100%. This might not work for damage it took while you were still sitting in it though...
