Ok so, IMO, there's no way that every animal from PZ1 is getting in the game.

So I organized all the animals into different tiers of how important it is for them to be in the base game or DLC

Should definitely be in the base game: Simple as; these are animals that should be first in consideration for the base game. I mostly guided myself using the first two Zoo Tycoon games with some exceptions. For example, I chose the white rhino because it does better in mixed exhibits. I also made sure the lion, spotted hyena, meerkat, warthog, and mandrill in so that, if Frontier adds birds into the base game, they can add a red-billed hornbill (Tockus sp.) and you can have the cast of The Lion King in the base game.

For PZ2, I'd also edit some of the subspecies to be more in-line with other animals

American bison > Plains bison
Bongo > Eastern bongo
Koala > Queensland koala
Plains zebra > Grant's zebra
Timber wolf > Northwestern wolf or Mackenzie River wolf
West African lion > Southern lion

Good for filling out the roster: These are animals where I'm not gonna cry if they're not in the base game but I'd like them in sooner than later. Many of these animals could theoretically be DLC headliners if Frontier wants to devote PZ2 to more new animals. This is where I put almost all the exhibit animals because I genuinely want Frontier to improve exhibits by just letting us have customizable exhibit sizes. Even being able to build a terrarium out of .5m blocks would make exhibit animals far more viable for zoos and far less cumbersome than having a big 4m x 4m box for little bugs.

Would be nice as DLC: I put these animals in because they're either relatively oddball choices or not that essential to the base experience.

Free Updates: These are animals that either have way better counterparts or don't add much of anything to the game. This was the hardest to fill out as I think every PZ1 animal should be in PZ2 eventually for the sake of equity. Rather, I think these animals would be amazing for free updates as a bonus treat alongside the release of a DLC. I also was asked to put the Titan beetle here because it's not found in zoos at all. Tbh, I think that's a bit harsh but I wasn't rly one to argue.

Hot take - most of your ‘free gift’ animals should be in base game, to avoid disappointment if they are added later. Things like the Wisent, African Leopard, Black and White Ruffed Lemur are all amazing choices tor a zoo game. They should be in it from the start to bulk out the roster.

I actually think there's a decent chance we get most of the PZ roster in the PZ2 base game. Planet Coaster 2 has something like 90% of the content from Coaster 1, barring a few licensed items. Presumably the PZ2 roster will utilise the same animal models as PZ1.

The only animals I'd be fine with sacrificing would be the ones that have seriously incorrect models, the orangutan being the worst offender. It should not be just a reshaped gorilla with brachiation added as an afterthought; it needs its own unique rig and locomotion.

How is the African leopard an "amazing choice" for a zoo game? It barely even qualifies as a zoo animal.

Maybe the fact it reminds people of the bengal tiger, ever zoo that has african leopards are mostly hybrids with some execptions (columbus).

I considered adding a "would be nice as DLC tier" before I realized that tier would be empty. It would just be scummy on Frontier's part to make us pay again for the same animals. No animal from the first game should be sold as DLC in the sequel.

My (personal) opinion. A lot of the
‘would be nice’ and even some ‘indifferent’ would be happily welcomed in DLC. The top tier is simply what I NEED to see from PZ2.

Honestly as NZfantastic said there is a decent chance to see +90% of PZ roster in PZ2

We have the examples of the 2 sequels of Frontier games. PC2 and JWE2 both having practically all rides/dinos, and in case of the both have a pretty solid argument of why aren't in the base game, first PC2 for the licensed, and JWE2 with rhe Hybrids because Univerals doesn't want to bring back the Hybrids in the saga again after JWFK and JWCC, so the reason why they were bring back again literally was the community, they were asking for the Spinoraptor, Stegoceraptops in the game ans frontier did it, but as Paid DLC, so the community was very angry and honestly Frontier learned that, so they won't the same thing in another game and after all the roster of JW1 was completed after that dlc, so any dinosaur from the first game was deleted "forever"


Now PZ2, is basically obviuosly that the same thing happens:

1. They won't selling animals again in PZ2 ( pretty much all the community will hat that ( Forums, Reddit, Steam, Casuals and YouTube))

2. Literally in some Posts here in the development journey, said that when they choose an animal and they create him ( models, fur, rig, sounds) It takes them months to make just one, now imagine if they scrapped their models, especially the current ones, from Wetlands to Zookeepers

With that said, all recents animals will be in PZ2 for sure, ( Wisent, Wolverine, Saiga, Swam, Takin, Chicken, Sheep, Alpaca, Sifaka, Andean and Sloth bear, Dama Gazelle, Addax, SW Ass, African Leopard, Peccary, T Devil, Quokka and more and more )

Finally, "if" they delete animals pretty sure will be ones from the base game, as the Orangutans, Wildbeest, Nyala, Warthog and Formosan Black Bear for example, but they in some point will come back, and with better textures, models and more, so don't worry, for what animals yes or what animals not,

Also for a Zoo game the amount of animals is very important, even the real zoos, so start a New game with less animals will be such a Mistake and bad poin in therms of marketing

And yes Zoo Tycoon 2 didn't have the same base roster as ZT1 did but that was because ZT1 were in 2D sprays and they did a big Graphic Jumps to the new ( in that moment) 3D graphics, much more effort to just port animals to a new game with practically very good graphics as we have in PZ1
