One of the prettiest animals in game. Walking through the nighttime Desert.

In the history of PZ, "Free Update"(particularly when attached to a DLC) always meant both bug fixes and a sizeable amount of new content. It's only in the past couple DLCs that the new content has waned. This is the first where it was essentially nothing. 99% of the update was bug fixes and name/text changes. Of course the community is going to be critical of that, as there are still many aspects of the game that can still be improved and updated.
Many in the community even prefer the free content to the actual DLC content.
To me, and I’ve said this in my video, the free content for the game is what is the driving force behind adding new features. To me as a mod user and author, the premise of adding new animals isn’t game changing to me in the slightest. That doesn’t discredit how much I appreciate the effort put into them though, the upgrade to the flamingo is beautiful and I can say all the praises about the bighorn til the cows come home, but i could already build for these species before. If I really wanted to, I could’ve made art shape papel picados too. But new gameplay features - like functional gift shops, restaurants, the cinematic tool (oh my god it’s so good), all of these revolutionized the way i would build. And that’s the stuff i really came to love about the game and would keep me invested. Now, my main driving factor is content, not in the way wherein I must make videos to enjoy the game, but rather craft narratives that drive my gameplay for me. And I guess that’s what people do in franchise or their own time, but man, those chunky and hearty update features were so good. I miss them 🫶

I'm one of those Franchise players and obviously don't use mods. I of course love the animals as well, and was over the moon when Animal Packs became a thing. But I've really come to depend more and more on the Free Update content to keep me invested in the game and help it feel fresh - even if the changes aren't as great as I'd like. Needless to say I've been disappointed with the past few DLCs.
Kinda funny how we approach the game from 2 completely different pov, but still have a very similar outlook on content.

I have zero expectations on any significant game-changing/improving features coming now.

I used to desperately hope for something like allowing us to chose our own biome texture palate or manually control the temperature so that snow stays on the ground but I’m resigned to that never happening.

Even something as basic and much wished for as a grided mesh set seems out of reach, just mostly random and impractical pieces that don’t add anything for me.

Don’t get me wrong, I love and appreciate the fact that we still get content but the sense of enhancing the overall game experience and building actual zoos (which was never there enough for me) seems to be lost.

This reminds me of the time when South America Pack dropped, and I was incredibly mad because all the promotional material advertised "over 170 new pieces" and so I (understandably) expected a lot of new pieces, maybe new pots, fences, decorations, or something...
Instead, half of said pieces were just the same piece but flexicolour (for example the bamboo set, the temple wall set, and the wood beams).
And to this day we still not have any of the ruin pieces in this pack in a flexi color version as well and it drives me bonkers. I need them so often in a different color, but nope... Frontier stuffed the whole pack with pieces that could have been just one (but flexicolor) but this is were they drew the line and said: "Oh no, lets not overdo it."
