Planet Zoo: Oceania Pack arriving 19 Sep 🐧

Actually, this does bring up an interesting idea: zoos serve alcohol in their restaurants/bars, but this is obviously a family friendly game. How would y'all feel if we got new kiosks and the like that served non-alcoholic drinks, like sangría and piña coladas? I think that it totally fits the vibe of this pack, to be honest
after watching the special livestream, that's exactly what i wanted this pack to have..
especially those 5 mocktails they made in that stream, with the very same names
and the vendor shop could be named after a polynesian themed planco brand

Does anyone happen to have any links to articles about the apparent plans to introduce Quokkas and Little Blue Penguins to European zoos? Everybody keeps mentioning it, but I can’t find a single article anywhere about these plans to distribute Quokkas and (to a lesser extent) Blue Penguins to zoos around Europe.

Don't know about Penguins, Quokkas were mentioned before on this forum:

The Terra Australis house at Wilhelma has now opened. As well as the animals mentioned above, the following species are also included:
  • Blue-tongued skink (I had previously heard that the house was only going to be mammals - obviously not)
  • Brush-tailed bettong
  • Quokka (three individuals imported from Australia - the only ones of their kind in Europe)

There are at least Quokkas in Stuttgart already according to Zootierliste.de
And the western Subspecies of the Blue Penguin in Weymouth.
So both Species do already appear in one european Zoo. Maybe there are Plans to give Offspring to other european Zoos someday🤔

Amazing, thank you both! I knew about the Penguins in Weymouth, but thought there might be more. The news about the Quokkas is sweet though! I do hope that what people are saying is true, and that Quokkas are going to be displayed at more zoos in Europe. I’d love to see their smiley little faces in the UK soon!

hiiiiiiii

They are unable to use any of the thin climbable pieces, to make this work for them the team had to take a different approach as there are some navigational constraints :)
will they be able to hang down (and upside down) from tree branches?

No worries! If the ropes do end up being usable by the orangutans (or maybe some new climbable ropes 👀), I can see it now...

As is, I'm glad we have what we have! The brachiation looks AMAZING!!!!

i can understand thin pieces being difficult to animate with since the orangutan model in the game doesnt appear very "brachiation friendly" (aka legacy of the red gorilla)
my guess is it would be technically difficult to make them brachiate on ropes and thin logs as much as it would be difficult to animate gorillas to do that
but hanging down from tree branches should be easier as it does not include forward movement
maybe some new thicker climbable ropes for orangutans can help?

🤔 ok, how exactly does this Night Mode look?
Thought this would mean it blocks way more Light than just making a normal Room
In Planet Coaster, when you let a "dark coaster" run it's the same lighting as in Planet Zoo. When you choose to ride the coaster from a guest POV, the game switches to night-time until you get off the ride, creating the illusion that the coaster is actually dark. They never found a way to just make the building dark.

This wouldn't work in PZ because you aren't riding a ride.

Wouldn't more money mean that they could employ more people and therefore meet the same deadlines while producing more content ? You make firm assertions but I am not sure I understand the reasoning behind all of them.
Just providing numbers, Frontier went from 800 to 915 employees last year, only 14 of which was from their accquisition.

Notably:
  • First pack with more than one bird (even if they're both the kinds of flightless birds that already have good representation in PZ)
  • First pack without a member of the order Carnivora (no, the devil is not a carnivore in that sense)
  • First pack without a placental mammal at all, in fact
unfortunately that last point is wrong bats and flying foxes are placental mammals.

I'm in a decision-making bind. Do I wait to play and start a new zoo on the Temperate Oceania map (assuming I can place it where I want to) or do I continue the zoo I started a while ago, and build an Oceania section in it?
Yeah I’ve got a similar dilemma going on. I was originally planning to start by expanding my current zoo project, even doing some planning for it last night, but the more I think about it the more and more tempted I am to just start a fresh new project when the update drops. The pack certainly warrants it.

This pack looks spectacular. Do wish we got an echidna, but it's not a big to me. We got the platypus already, so that's 1/3rd of the monotremes. Can't wait to play with it.

If the new map is just a scenario map only available in Australia or, like, Samoa or something then I probably won't bother (I suspect it will be - either Tasmania for the devil or Polynesia for the building set). If I can chuck it in New Zealand, though...

Given they include mention of the new Temperate Oceania biome in the free update portion rather than as part of the DLC (as the scenario map would be), I can’t imagine it being anything other than them finally fixing the biomes on the front-end globe (for Oceania at least) and giving the new Temperate map in Oceania a unique skirt.

I wonder on what kind of environment they’d base the skirt off of - based on the lack of Australian trees in the base game (and no new eucalypts appearing here unfortunately) and the keyart seeming to suggest an as of yet unseen Southern Alps-esque background (although that may just be for the art rather than something in game), I would not be surprised if it’s primarily themed around New Zealand.

I am very much hoping for a map skirt that is at least partially water, so that j can do a realistic looking island zoo
