Planet Zoo | Update 1.18.2 available now

tbh I’m fine with more allowing for walkthrough than not. Anteater absolutely shouldn’t be walkthrough though. but all domestics, including camels, should be walkthrough. same goes for allowing all domestics to pull from all continents / biomes, it only allows for greater flexibility for the user. if they don’t want it to be a walkthrough habitat they don’t need to make it one.
I agree. It's better to err on the side of "more" for most areas of the game. And for those who are concerned with realism they can just opt not to do it.
A walkthrough Hippo habitat could be fun :sneaky:

I have walked among highland cattle before. They aren't any more dangerous than any other domestic breed of cattle, to be honest, but that said I've never seen them walkthrough in a zoo (though I have seen them as an animal you can hand-feed through a fence - along with Galloway cattle and zebu). Highland cattle are pretty gentle, in any case. Camels aren't, by any measure.
Yeah, my argument aimed towards walththroughs in zoos with unexpirienced (and dumb) guests and tiny kids. I would not let those people walk on a meadow with any other cattle either. Most domestic animals are only dangerous when approached in a stupid way, but there are stupid zoo guests out there.

Honestly, I'm ethically conflicted about any walkthrough habitats, but I recognise they're common enough to warrant inclusion in the game.

Then why not make every animal walkthrough-compatible? 🤷‍♂️

I was hoping this could be related to the domestics showing up under every continent in the Zoopedia, but sadly they still do. I find that annoying.
Wouldn't this technically be correct since most domestic species have been brought to every continent? The only ones I can think of that haven't are more obscure ones like gayal/mithun or bali cattle/bali banteng, the first of which never made it out of Asia and the second of which has only made it to Australia besides it's native Asia. There's also the domestic Yak which is not on every continent but it is on most continents. Common domestic animals like sheep, pigs, European cattle, goats, and chickens are found on every continent except for Antarctica as far as I'm aware.

But yeah some of the choices made are stupid. The giant anteater and emu stick out as two obvious ones; one is so dangerous most zoos won't even allow keepers to walk with in the habitat, and the other can be found in walkthroughs all over Australasia yet isn't in the game. As for raccoons, it feels like Frontier saw one of those cutesy and ethically questionable animal cafés in Japan and just rolled with it.
I've seen camels at petting zoos and riding the camel attractions here. Not saying those attractions are necessarily ethical, just that I've seen places where guests can interact with camels here.

They needed to do walk-through so people could make petting zoos with the Barnyard pack. Every zoo I've ever been to, including AZA accredited ones have a petting zoo that includes at least goats or sheep if nothing else.

And I do kind of wish they would make every animal walkthrough so players could decide on their own which animals they want to make walk-through. For my canid zoo, I wanted guests to be able to go into my Timber Wolf enclosure because there's a lot of wolf and wolfdog sanctuaries and/or education facilities that let guests pay to go on tours that allow them to go in the enclosure with wolves and/or wolfdogs. I'd also like them to be able to go in with the Red Foxes and Arctic Foxes since foxes are much less dangerous than wolves and encounters with them are even more common at educational facilities and fox rescues. Plus why can guests go in with Fennec Foxes but run away screaming over Arctic Foxes and Red Foxes when neither species is that that much larger? It also annoys me when people make a domestic dog mods out of the wolves or dingoes and then guests run away screaming over a breed of dog just because it was made from a wolf or dingo and uses the wolf's or dingo's coding. There's a very nice Australian Cattle Dog mod someone made for the game but it drives me nuts that I couldn't use them in the petting zoo because guests are afraid of them since they were made from one of the wolf species in the game, or perhaps the dingo. Speaking of dingoes, I wish I could make a walk-through with them as well because I did a dingo encounter at a zoo once and they just behaved very similar to domestic dogs, coming up to my face and licking me and wanting me to pet them. There's also a lot of places with dingo encounters. I wish there was a mod to make all animals walk-through but I haven't found any yet because I guess that would take too much coding and require changing every species' code individually.

In that case the same logic should be used for invasive species.

Also I doubt all of the specific breeds in Planet Zoo are as widespread as the game claims. Are there really any Alpine Goats in Oceania? And if there are I guess they are held by a few niche farmers. Should they be seen as native to Oceania for that? And why do captive populations count for domestics when they don't for wild animals?

I know they probably based this on none-specific breeds, meaning most are globally present (because of humans). But why are we suddenly doing range maps on a species level here, when we aren't with something like subspecies?

I just think it creates too many loose ends with the domestics to sort them like this. They should just have their own tab under the continents or something like that.

There are more than enough options in sandbox to make any animal walk-through if that's what someone fancies. So no reason to make an official "My friendly pet farm" out of a zoo game.
If realism players are told just to not use IRL dangerous animals in walk throughs then, that argument goes both ways.

How did you manage to get the animation working for African leopards. So many times with climbing logs tried yet no chances...
