Planet Zoo | ZooKeepers Animal Pack Announcement

I mean most of these arent uber rare, but im confident in my statement that none of these are particularly common either.
You come across these, but not something you see at basicly every zoo
Only one I’d say is common is the tortoise but even that is just because of how easy they are to acquire.

A zookeeper pack should only have iconic and common animals imo.
Baboon- Iconic
Tortoise- Common
Sifaka- Iconic
Markhor- Somewhat iconic, maybe Musk Ox
Walrus- Iconic, replaces Pallas Cat
Coati- Common & Iconic, replaces bear
Muntjac- Common & Iconic, replaces Dik-Dik

Very late to the party, but here's my ranking of the new animals:
Pallas Cat: 3/5. If we had to get any new cat, I'm glad it's one with personality.
Hamadryas Baboon: 5/5! Easily the most overdue addition in a while, very good to finally see a nice plain baboon. I may also have some bias since they're a fixture at one of my own favorite zoos.
Markhor: 3/5. A good goat-beastie.
Spectacled Bear: 3/5. Kind of a shame we'll probably end up missing just one bear species, but eh. They're neat, good to have them!
African Spurred Tortoise: 0/5... Like I've already expressed, this inclusion kind of feels like a cruel joke. I understand that people will like having it for teh realism, but it's just not interesting or unique enough to justify for me, especially in the context of this particular pack.
Kirk's Dik-dik: 2/5. I don't think I'll ever end up personally using it, but it's a harmless addition that other people will no doubt like. Plus, funny name.
Coquerel's Sifaka: 5/5! Easily the most exciting addition of the pack in my eyes. They're such unique and silly dudes, and if Frontier manages to do them justice with the animations, I'll be more than satisfied. Bizarre to see so many people complaining about this pick though, no? I understand the frustration with not having nearly enough South American primates, I really do, I would have LOVED to see the Lion or Emperor Tamarin get in. But it shocks me to no end that people will complain that this is "just a fourth lemur" while also praising the tortoise, which we have two of already, or even campaigning for another flamingo, of all things.

Overall? This is kiiinda a meh pack, which is, of course, not an ideal note to go out on... but I tempered my expectations, so I'm feeling fine about it.

Just remembered that African spurred tortoises are burrowers - I hope they're able to use the large burrows, it'd be a great behaviour to include to set them apart from the other giant tortoises in the game.

I do wonder what PZ2 DLC will look like, though, if we get even 80% of the current roster in the base game. Yeah, everyone wants birds, but will they be popular enough on their own to sell DLC? I feel like they'll almost have to withold certain popular species to headline packs. In some cases this will be incredibly annoying, but in others it could end up being a net positive. For example if they skipped the orangutan in the base game and saved it for then they can do its behaviour justice in a DLC, I wouldn't be mad, but I'd feel a little sore about having to buy, say, the jaguar again.
I honestly wouldn't mind animals that are more complex to develop for the engine were DLC. Orangutan, binturong, certain climbing and deep diving species as well IF they were able to get the polish they so desperately need. Orangutan and binturong need complete overhauls since the more recent animals with shaggier hair look decent comparatively. Also speaking of DLC for PZ2 they need to redo the way the distribute species. Majority of packs were the same formula regardless of the theme. I get it hits a broader audience but it really limited what species we got at this point in the game's lifespan. The majority of players probably would have payed for a strict new world primate pack if it was offered. Same with ground dwelling birds or habitat reptiles since they're so lacking. This game had a bit of a marketing issue with the DLC's imo.

Which makes them fit with that name.

Many zookeepers tend to find more interest in animals you don't see everywhere over the common ones. Myself included. Though when it comes to Planet Zoo, I'm often more the other way around.

Ask a zookeeper who never played Planet Zoo to put together a pack of cool animals. Then the tortoise and the baboon are more likely to be left out than the sifaka and markhor.

My ranking for those animals of the Zookeepers Animal Pack.
1. Hamadryas baboon. That's my most wanted of that pack. Now Planet Zoo has baboon. In Powerpuff Girls Movie, there were many "main" kinds of apes and monkeys playing Mojojojo being a chimpanzee. Orangutan, gorilla, baboon, gibbon, Japanese macaques, proboscis monkey and New World monkeys (those were spider monkeys and Planet Zoo's were capuchins. White/Pink faced ones were in most live-action films).
2. Markhor. Since I played Zoo Tycoon, I admired that spiral-horned goat so I too wished for that to be there.
3. African spurred tortoise. Although two zoo games of Blue Fangs (Zoo Tycoon 2 and cancelled Facebook game Zoo Kingdom)
4. Pallas cat. Well, that looked as fluffy as some domestic cat breed, only a bit of 'grumpy'-looking.
5. Spectacled bear. Now that that's in Planet Zoo, my next wanted and hope after African leopard being Anniversary is now American black bear, the last of eight species of bear to be there. And there were two subspecies of one bear species.
6. Sifaka. Did had game had enough lemurs?
7. Kirk's dik-dik. Hardly anything to talk about that.

I just hope all of the current ungulates are in base game so we don't have packs with 5-6 ungulates again. Most of the big name ungulates are already in. That should leave more room for birds and reptiles and primates, the groups that have been horribly neglected.

I can't help, but I think the fur looks washed out. As if someone had wiped over it with the smudge tool in Photoshop.
Really not a nice texture, especially on the neck. I noticed that with the bear in the trailer too.
And with the leopard too. Idk what's going on with the necks haha

SDZ is not even close to being the best zoo imo from the ones I’ve visited it’s 2nd but by a long shot, Omaha was phenomenal! I’ve only heard Bronx can compete (visiting next year)
I've never been to any of those since i don't love in the US but for what i've seen on the internet and from zoo tours videos on YouTube, Omaha, Bronx and Houston seem to be the Best zoos there and i think they look way cooler to visit than San Diego. San Diego has a big animal collection but the enclosures and exhibits donn't really appeal as much to me. They seem small and kind of not natural enough? That said it does have some cool atractions and sections.

San Diego’s viewing for habitats were bad but many of the exhibits for the habitats were small. I preferred the safari park. I haven’t been to Houston nor was it on my radar until recently, with their new Galapagos section it may be worth the visit. NC zoo was better and worse that SDZ at the same time, I prefer SDZ based off the collection though.

If we are talking about animals from Omaha, both the coquerel sifaka (I think, there's loads of lemur species) and African spurred Tortoise are found there, as I have updated my species list for that zoo not requiring modded animals for their own areas. San Diego zoo from a planet zoo perspective kind of sucks for the most part, I haven't found much fun building 40 percent of the zoo with lots of second-rate habitats, small sizes and easily the worst giraffe habitat in a major zoo. If we had birds, San Diego is would be a fantastic zoo to build as that's where the large walkthrough aviaries shine but maybe for a sequel which I will downright refuse to rebuild the zoo again for a third time lol.

It don’t even remember there being a tortoise exhibit there, maybe near the bongo? The sifakas are long gone, they left before 2023.

From what I can see on Zoochat, there's tortoises by the bongo and possibly a rotating monkey / bird / tortoise habitat in the gorilla valley. I only have these Zoochat species lists to go off of, it does have it own problems as I need to rely on another person's thorough coverage of the zoo from a year or 2 ago hoping it is still correct.

If you ever do an Ohio or Michigan zoo I can help lol, still don’t know where half the animals are at in Toledo.
