Planetary approach suite not working

it may be logging into the base game instead of horizons but my planetary approach suite isn’t working and I get dropped out of supercruise as soon as I enter the atmosphere. Any help?

There is two different possibilities here. Both are relatively simple.
A) you are launching the base game, which means a large quantity of content is unplayable.
or
B) You are attempting to land on a planet without a landable surface.
I will attempt to help you out as best I can, regardless!

Assuming Scenario A:
When you first open the Elite launcher, you should get something like this- make sure Horizons is highlighted before clicking Play:

Additionally, if you are playing through Steam, the launcher can open to only launch Horizons. I think it's possible on other platforms, but unfortunately, I do not know how.

Scenario B:
Planets with landable surfaces will appear with a blue "crescent" around their icon on the System Map. If they do not have that crescent- then the planet can only be observed from outside its orbit. Don't attempt an approach. Planets with atmospheres aren't accessible until Odyssey drops.

I know planetary landings confused the living daylights out of me when I first started, but I was left to figure it out all by my lonesome.

Best of luck on your exploration endeavours, Commander.

It turns out I was trying to land on a non landable planet lol

Wow, that's informative! What's the difference between the 2 landable planets? The first one has bar graphs.

The difference between the two is a matter of whether or not there are planetary outposts on the surface. The lack of a "graph" means the planet lacks outposts.

Bonus Tip: If you intend on snooping around inhabited worlds, do be careful of secure locations. They have a varying amount of + following their names to tell you how high the security level is. Unless you're there for a mission, I would recommend avoiding them.

Glad I could help out! I can safely admit I have done it many times in the beginning when I started out too.
Everybody starts somewhere.

Fly safe!
