Planetary Textures and the PS4?

That Xbox video is from update 2.2 and also it's an ice planet so the surface looks smoother less texture.

That looks pretty bad, but don't forget this:

"One large element of this point update is a number of “under the hood” fixes which are designed to improve stability and performance, particularly on planet surfaces."

Finally!

As you get closer the graphics render, so I wouldn't worry too much.
It's a massive game and consoles can't handle graphics like PC do.

Yep, the only problem xbox really has is it does this quite close and often until it settles down. This could be an improvement the PlayStation could smooth out and Deffo ps pro/Scorpio :)

Maybe the OPs screenshot was from an earlier build of Horizons, but that does look pretty bad.

However, as you approach planets, the higher res textures stream in and it looks fine. Once you are at the planets surface, the graphical quality is very good IMO, and yields little to the PC build.

I wouldn't have any concerns for the terrain quality on the PS4.

They look a lot better mate thanks.

I doubt it as it was only put on discord in the last few days. His Xbox should be running the latest version.

Interesting topic. Crying out for some PS4 footage

No, the OP picture is from just a few days ago. And frankly I do not understand the "as you approach they load up" argument. That's a picture of a canyon flyby: you can't get much closer than that without landing...

But OK, let's be optimistic and hope that the improvements in the next patch and the PS4 optimization will do the trick.

Yeh he was doing a canyon fly through so can't see that argument myself either. It just looks poor.

I think people need to understand both the xbox and ps are essentially running on very old hardware compared to pc some compromises have had to be made to get it running at all :(
With the xbox and planetary landings it's been the lod distance settings :( you see the changes quite obviously the closer you get.

Hopefully the ps4 has a smoother transition but until we see it running on a stock ps4 we won't know!

Hint hint, FDev :)

I'm happy to have a PS4Pro + UHD tv. :)

Looking at the altimeter, the screenshot was taken at 10.5Km from the planet surface, so still quite a way up. It's not like he was just coming in to land.

It's quite deceptive when you are coming towards a planet as to how far away from the surface you are just from eyeballing it (well at least it is to me). Guess that's why we have instruments!

I think he's 10.5km above the surface of the valley basin but either level or within 1km of the valley top so it's using the lower basin to set the draw distance even though he's much much closer.

It's not just you lol :)

I hadn't noticed the first time I watched it live but the pax livestream shows the same planetary training mission (just before it blue screens) as the pics I took on the other page, it looks exactly the same quality as xbox so I just hope it loads the textures quicker/smoother!
