"play my own way?" yh, right

while i was reading the forums some one said the games taglines where "play your own way, total freedom, cut throat galaxy" the play my own way tagline made me angry cause i can not play the game the way i want to play it cause when i played ED. i felt i was being forced to play a certan way other wise i would fail at the game cause every one seemed to want a dark souls mmo in space rather than a fun solo space sim

Please explain. What is it you wish to do?

To be honest by logical extension you can't play any game the way you may want to:
I want to play Call of Duty online and build a roller-coaster.

Currently your OP doesn't give enough information and the above could be true. It could be you have unrealistic expectations, it could be you have a point, who am I to judge until you actually make that point. :)

Forgive me for being churlish but without any detail whatsoever this isn't really a very useful thread.

Judging by the dark souls reference, I have a feeling it has something to do with difficulty.

Indeed. Telling us what difficulties are being met (without hyperbole) tends to result in a thread full of suggestions by helpful people.

"Blaze your own trail. And if you can't, be nice about it and ask for help."

Most of us are nice, op.

Hehe, I've seen enough of these to know that in many cases the OP doesn't ever return, maybe this time will be different but I don't want to waste my time trying to work out both a problem and a solution, I struggle enough with the latter sometimes :p

It does not necessarily follow that by playing your own way, you will be successful.

Completely agree. However if it was successful until the game was changed...

I'm pretty fed up with each point release significantly changing the core game. Tweaks yes, big changes no thanks. If FDev want it to be a different game maybe make a different game? You never know, people might buy both.

LOL! I know what you mean. I sometimes begin typing up a lengthy response to either help or explain certain details, but 9 out of 10 times I just delete what I wrote halfway through and never come back myself. :D

Yeah, I know where you are coming from... I'm going to hate Battlefield 1 because I can't dog fight in a Cobra Helicopter or use the Barrett .50 cal rifle to snipe with... [rolleyes]

Seriously, you are being way to literal in you interpretation of "play my own way". Yes, you can be an explorer, trader, ect... but you have to prepare the ship for any eventuality and that certainly includes interdiction. There are many things you can do to minimize interdiction like no engineer cargo, not selecting certain mission types, no bounties and power play pledging but you won't eliminate the threat unless you get out of the bubble.

It's really not that hard to avoid combat if you don't want to do it. My T6 has mines only and a Level 3 Dirty Drives so I submit, boost wake and I haven't lost her yet. I don't get interdicted that much even though I take missions all the time that say I might get interdicted because I don't do power play, avoid bounties like the plague and I only carry engineer cargo when I'm heading to the engineers.

Combat isn't that hard when you prepare your ship properly and I can assure you I'm not that good at it.Bottom line, if you don't enjoy the game than find one that you do. Why play a game that you don't enjoy?

If the AI gets any dumber, I'll be impressed.

That being said, this game could benefit from a few "profession scenario" training missions. Like you could simulate an interdiction and the game would remind you the importance of having a shield, boosting, the difference between low-wake and high-wake, and what a difference mine launchers make.

Did you buy a space combat sim to grow cabbages on a remote planet, far from the civilization?
I agree. Until we can farm and drive cars around the cities, it will never be a space sim with absolute freedom.

Oh, wait...

I want to walk out on to the pavement, go into a shop and buy my first kebab of the autumn, then ring a taxi on my mobile phone and get the driver to run over prams and people carrying candyfloss.

Now what is this kebob you speak of?

:D

Sorry, back on topic:

WHATT?

Hm, I mostly play alone. I fly around in a cool space ship. I haven't met any dark soul. I'm having fun doing what ever I want to do in what ever ship I want to use.

Relax. Stop worrying about credits or what cool ships others fly. Find something to do that is fun to you and do that. Simple.

What are you trying to do exactly ? Play your own way means you do what you want but within game mechanics, you can't for example go around without shield or hull reinforcements and not get interdicted and destroyed LOL, it's a general rule you can do what you want as long as you know what you are doing, it's still a cut throat galaxy after all LOL

You can do that, but like you wrote you need to know what you are doing. ;)
