Player owned battlecruisers

How much do you think it would cost to purchase a battlecruiser?

Should there be a combat rank requirement?

Would any players make the attempt to purchase one?

There should be absolutely relentless recurring costs for staff compensation and frequent maintenance costs... even if you don't sign-on the game. The costs should accrue based on universe time, not time played.

That would kinda suck. You'd spend all your time trying to keep up on payments instead of actually using the ship. That makes it worthless to own. Then again, wiping a high CZ in a matter of minutes is an easy fat wad of cash, do it several times over and you're good.

I would "acquire" one if I could. I think that instead of building costs, just make it visible all the time. Then your wing would be forced to keep it safe, kinda like a mobile station.

1) At least 1,000,000,000 Credits sure it seems a lot but it's a capital ship right ? They are in no way abundant and should rightly not be, as well as the costs to build something like that.

2) Obvious implementation would be something like Federation (Admiral) / Imperial (King) for the respective ships Battlecruiser/Interdictor. I read somewhere the Alliance has a Thargoid capital ship in the old Elite games and lets be honest not only would that be cool but it would give some use to the alliance rankings too if they were to provide thargoid ships. Thinking about it the alliance seems to be gearing up to research on barnacles and UAs so it would make sense they would be given Thargoid ships that they had reverse engineered while the Empire or Federation argued among themselves. This is obviously purely speculation of course and my own opinion so don't take it to heart.

3) There are always going to be players who want bigger, badder ships myself included and as ick said capital ships would give some VERY interesting game mechanics such as crew costs. An addition to that would be instead of Starports, huge shipyards purpose built for servicing Capital ships would also be nice.

*also dreaming cap ship dreams* :p

What would be a feasible price? 15 bil? 20 bil? Less? More?

comparatively, an A rated cutter or corvette can cost 1 billion. That's a drop in the hat. I'm thinking billions. 10+ bil.

Don't think of it as a ship.
Think of it as a huge mobile base. Like a support item for your player faction.
All your buddy's load up their ships inside of the battle cruiser go to a community goal and set up shop as either a massive bounty hunting support or private privacy port.
Take your buddies to a cz and be a mobile restock and repair port. Sounds pretty epic. ..of course it will have plenty of weapons too.

'Owned' by multiple players of independent factions, required to share the cost of maintenance. Neat!

I'd never be able to pull it off with just my group, but bigger, more organized wings might be able do something with it.

True there are a lot of CMDRs with 1bil+ in the bank but don't forget the module prices on top of the ships base price aswell as possible crew recruitment prices. Just look at the conda a 142 mil ship that can easily reach into 800 - 900 mil mark on modules alone I mean let's not even get started on the rebuy xD.

True, A rating large ships is normally 4 to 5 times the cost of the ship. 10 bil price tag would be 50 bil ish to A rate. If you even need to A rate it... I mean... It's a battlecruiser. Unless you're fighting other battlecruisers or interdicters.

Its a battlecruiser.....you cannot run those alone, so a cost would make sense, obviously it wouldn't be something intended for 'normal' usage.

So what would be a reasonable recurring cost to run the ship?
No clue, honestly? something that would as mentioned below, would counter the immense power you'd get, and there naturally should be a big risk too, but yeah, obviously I don't think it should be an iwin button.

Good point, imagine just fitting all the hard points on an A-rated battlecruiser with Gauss/PA's and shooting a Sidewinder that'd be pretty overkill. :p

To help with the up keep of a Battle Cruiser / Capital Ship they could introduce a similar system to the stations when docking for example paying for: Fuel, Repairs and Restock. Plus I guess they could also introduce a landing fee that changes depending on the size of your ship eg: Sidewinder costs 10k credits and a Cutter/Corvette costs up to 300k credits or something

how so? the last time i have seen one, they don't move in real space. e.g. they wipe nothing out of weapon range. why would anybody "pilot" a ship with turrets, that can't even move?

As far as I can tell, the Devs didn't put much thought into their purpose at the moment while being piloted by AI. I think it's unfair to assume it can't move in real space, as that poses a lot of logistical issues for the ship. I do however think that it's fair to assume that a battlecruiser is capable of more than just warping in and not moving while blasting anything dumb enough to move within range. I guess we just don't know enough to assume any of it's capabilities at all yet though. That being said, will they ever let us buy one? Doubtful, is that going to stop me from hoping and posting about it? Not likely.

I'll never understand why people would like battle cruisers, stations, bases etc until FD release Elite - Mundane Job Simulator and everyone can live out their dreams of repeating what the ship computer says, or perhaps being chief mop sanitizer in the Thargoid Containment pits.

Even if you did get a huge battleship - it would need to have L plates :D
