Horizons Players Guide v2.00 Horizons PDF

Has it got stuff in it like:

In some missions you'll be asked for cargo that you can only obtain from POI on a planet surface, but we won't tell you in the mission because we expect you to be flipping psychic?

Some delivery missions will ask you to land on a base that can only be reveled if you happen to have an advanced discovery scanner, otherwise you'll be stuck flying around the bleeding system until the time limit runs out.

In our rush to get driving around on the planet in a buggy out, we forgot to make many game play mechanics act sensibly, opting instead for options that make absolutely no sense what so ever. EG, Failed cargo mission = stolen goods in the hold. I didn't steal them, I failed to delver them.
Or. Oh dear, you incurred a fine on that system 85 light years back, you'll have to go all the way back back and pay it because wire transfers just can't happen 31st century.

Avoiding NPC interdictions was waaaay too easy before, so now we've made them impossible to avoid. Yes, now you have the fun of repeatedly running away from the same NPC across light hours of space just because you chose a load-out with no weapons. What FUN!

You know that Super Cruse bug with the frame rate dropping on AMD cards that we had in 32-bit Elite:Dangerous? Well, you'll be happy to know that we've managed to port it across to the 64-bit version too!

Me thinks we need "Honest Trailer" manual.

I don't think those are in there. I may have missed them, though. ;)

You seriously need a cup of tea mate :)

Maybe make that the "long island iced" version :)

If it's a "surface mission" it's a "surface mission"

Always check your map before accepting a mission. That's always been a thing.

Fail a delivery mission and the guys you were supposed to deliver to report that the goods never arrived. Yes, at that point you stole them. Either take on the challenge of smuggling them into a station and unload them at a black market to recoup a little of the lost mission reward or dump 'em in deep space. Then grovel to your employer to try and get your rep back.

ALWAYS high-wake away from an interdiction you don't want to repeat.

Dunno about frame rates dropping on AMD cards, I havent used their crappy graphics hardware in 15 years. Their CPUs used to rock, but radeon hardware was always naff.

LOL, Fair enough, I was a bit vexed.

But I do think that the delivery missions aren't much fun in their present state, even if I put my arguments across badly.
For example, the system with the planetary base I couldn't find, I wasn't able to purchase cartography data for the system, not even from the main space station. And nowhere in the mission briefs for the three missions I undertook to the fabled planetary base did it say, BTW Pilot the base doesn't show up on any maps, you'll have to find it.

I've currently raked up five delivery missions in a row that have failed because of shenanigans like the above. Sorry, but that's not fun.

Out of interest, what's "High-Wake Away"?

Cheers,

Thanks, haven't noticed. I love manuals, good for reading at work.

He:What are you doing?
Me: Reading?
He: What are you reading?
Me: Just a manual.
He: <loses interest...walks away>

When you jump in and out of supercruise within the same system you leave a Low energy wake behind you (which anyone can follow). When you jump to another system you leave a High Energy Wake (which can only be followed with the user of a frame shift wake scanner). The term "to High Wake" is often used to decribe the act of jumping to a different system, typically in order to evade pursuit.

Or, to become "wide awake" when you get messages like ....

"under attack";

"warning - landing gear not lowered";

"shields off line" ........

This made me laugh because it's so true. I took a "pilot needs rescuing" mission during the beta, and was given absolutely no instructions as to how I was meant to find them. Was I mean to drive around in my SRV using my scanner to find things? Was I meant to fly around looking for markers on my radar? Is that even a thing you can do? I had absolutely no clue and I wasn't about to waste time doing one thing if it was the other, so I abandoned the poor pilot to their fate, went exploring and haven't taken another mission since. I do think mind-reading is a prerequisite for far too many missions.

Edit: Although I have to say, if I was paid to deliver something in real life and I failed to do so, I think it would be considered stolen at that point :p
